Season of Giving: Skokie Steps Up to Support Nearly 300 Community Members In Need
|
This month, Skokie's Health and Human Services Department with support from Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers brightened the holiday season for nearly 300 Skokie individuals and families in need through the Village’s Assist-a-Family program!
How it helps: Assist-a-Family provides funds for groceries, household items and other essentials—allowing families to celebrate the season with dignity and peace of mind.
It's not too late to donate! Learn more about the Assist-a-Family program.

Reminder: Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Schedule
|
This week and next week, trash and recycling collections will occur as follows:
|
- Thursday collections will occur on Wednesday
- All other collections will occur as normal
|
Village Hall will be closed on Thursday, December 25 and Thursday, January 1. Village Hall will be open on December 24 and 31.

Routine Parkway Tree Pruning Planned
|
The Village’s contractor will be conducting routine parkway tree pruning in Skokie beginning the week of December 29 and lasting several weeks.
What to expect: Pruning will take place at locations throughout Skokie. Doorhangers will be distributed to all impacted households.
Pruning with a purpose: Trees are pruned for clearance, deadwood and structure; no other pruning will occur.

Fresh Find: Sweetgreen Now Open!

Looking for something fresh for lunch, dinner, or in between? Check out Sweetgreen – now open at Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie!
What you’ll find: Simple, seasonal, healthy salads and grain bowls made in-house from scratch, using whole produce delivered that morning.

ComEd has announced enhanced relief for eligible low-income customers starting in January 2026. Learn about the company’s Low-Income Discount Program.

VILLAGE WINS GRANT TO SUPPORT ENERGY EFFICIENCY OUTREACH
|
Skokie was one of 23 communities selected to receive the Low-Income Energy Efficiency Outreach and Engagement grant from the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.
Why it matters: Through this year-long initiative, the Village will partner with local organizations to deliver fun, accessible and multilingual outreach connecting income-qualified households to no- and low-cost energy programs, advancing goals in Skokie’s Environmental Sustainability Plan.
