How To Move Mindfully, Breathe Deeply, and Feel Calmer

  • Focus on Breathing

  • Guided imagery
    • This technique involves visualizing calming scenes to help you relax, focus, and strengthen a positive self-image.
    • Video of the Week
  • Mindfulness meditation
    • This practice involves focusing on your breath and staying present, letting go of past or future worries. It’s a popular form of meditation shown to help with anxiety, depression, and pain.

Meet Karina!

Karina is a dedicated facilitator for the BASICS Program, a free and confidential service designed to help students explore their alcohol use in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Through two one-on-one sessions, BASICS guides students in reflecting on their drinking habits, learning about how their choices compare to campus norms, and identifying strategies to reduce risky behaviors and harmful effects.

Passionate about student well-being, Karina brings a strong background in student affairs, public health programming, and equity in healthcare. Her professional interests include higher education administration, health law and policy reform, social justice, and program evaluation—all of which inform her compassionate and evidence-based approach to working with students.

Outside of work, Karina enjoys hiking, reading, journaling, dancing, and singing. She values balance, personal growth, and helping others make informed, healthy choices.
