Though 2025 brought its share of unexpected twists and turns, looking back on the year highlights the meaningful progress we’ve made together.
As we approach the end of the year, I’d like to share three words that guide me during this season of gratitude and reflection.
Amazement
I am continually impressed by the dedication of our faculty, providers and staff, the achievements of our students and trainees and the impact our entire community is making in the world. The work taking place at UC San Diego Health Sciences and across California strengthens our standing as a world-class institution. We are a destination for learners and patients alike, and those who choose us are inspired by what they experience here.
Family
Family is deeply important to me. I am one of 12 siblings, and my wife and I have four daughters of our own. Family also reflects our UC San Diego Health Sciences community. Our collaboration, innovation and support for one another make this an exceptional place to advance our tripartite mission.
Steadfastness
In a year shaped by shifting circumstances and challenges at both the state and federal levels, our resilience stands out. We continue to move forward with thoughtful, strategic approaches and a steady sense of purpose. Across Health Sciences, teams are working together to build systems that are sustainable, adaptive and designed for the long term.
To all my colleagues, I wish you and your loved ones the warmest holiday wishes. May this season offer a chance to reflect, recharge and enter the new year with renewed energy and optimism!
Warmly,
