SEPTEMBER 2025

BRIDGE TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT RIDERSHIP UPDATE

Travel in the Golden Gate Corridor by Bridge, bus and ferry remains well below pre-pandemic levels. Fortunately, travel in the Golden Gate Corridor continues to trend upward.
In August 2025, southbound Bridge traffic was 3 percent above August 2024 traffic, Bus ridership was 8 percent above August 2024, and Ferry ridership was 11 percent above August 2024 ridership. The District continues to add back bus and ferry service incrementally as we see a return of our customers travelling in the Golden Gate Corridor.
August 2025 traffic and transit ridership statistics are below:

SEPTEMBER IS TRANSIT MONTH

September is Transit Month, and Bay Area transit agencies celebrated with community events, local ride challenges, and ways to get involved. The District also co-hosted several events for transit month, including with a North Bay Transit Relay and North Bay CEO/GM ride along.
On Tuesday, September 23, Golden Gate Ferry, Golden Gate Transit, and our transit operator partners held a North Bay Transit Relay to celebrate All Aboard Bay Area Transit Day. Representatives from each agency used their agency's service to complete a leg of the trip from San Francisco to Sonoma. Each rider accepted a baton from the connecting agency at the end of their leg and passed it along to the next rider. See photos and video of the relay here
Additionally, on Friday, September 26, the District participated in All Aboard with Transit CEOs, a multi-modal ride-along and social event providing a great opportunity for the public to chat with CEOs about transit service and career opportunities. Our own District General Manager, Denis Mulligan, was onboard representing Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry.

SAUSALITO FERRY PLAZA RENOVATION COMPLETE

On Friday, September 5, the City of Sausalito and partners celebrated the grand opening of the Ferry Landside Improvement Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Council Members, local officials, community partners, and neighbors came together to toast the Ferry Plaza's fresh new look.
The makeover brings enhanced pathways for walkers and cyclists, better queuing areas for ferry riders, and a welcoming promenade complete with
eco-friendly seating and planters. This $2.6 million project was made possible through grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration, the District, and the City of Sausalito.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to the September 2025 Employee of the Month:
Mechanic in the Ferry Division, Michael Oderda!
Michael consistently goes above and beyond and is always willing to take on challenges, especially when things do not go according to plan. When one of the main engines on a Spaulding ferry vessel lost half of its coolant fluid into the bilge, and the ferry Maintenance Manager was on vacation, Michael was filling in for him. Despite the shop being short on mechanics, he agree to meet the ferry in Sausalito on its next arrival. Michael quickly diagnosed the problem and began replacing the coolant, as well as bleeding the air from the system. Within a short time, the vessel was fully repaired and back in service. This is just one example of how he consistently steps up to tackle challenges and ensures that District ferry operations keep running smoothly.
Michael joined the District in 2013. Prior to joining the District, he held positions as a Marine Electrician Mechanic at Dahl-Beck Electric, an Electrician/Mechanic at California Electric, and as an Electrician/Mechanic at Vincent Electric Motor.
Michael was born in Martinez and has been resident of Richmond since 2012. He attended Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill with a focus on Electrical. In his spare time, Michael enjoys motorcycles, mountain biking and bass fishing. Michael was also the Employee of the Month in October 2021.
