GCPL newsletter March ‘25
The Garfield Center for Public Leadership is wrapping up the first part of a very busy spring semester, while prepping for the second half, which includes our trip to Switzerland. We also have various updates about this recruitment period and our ongoing partnerships.
Reviewing the Spring Seminar
On February 6, the GCPL hosted -via zoom- its spring on-campus seminar, titled “Debt and Democracy in America,” with guest speaker Professor Kenneth Rogoff. Rogoff did a very good job of presenting economics information in a manner which was informative and yet very clear to a general audience. There were also a lot of very thoughtful questions which were posed by audience members during the Q and A. The feedback to this seminar has been positive and we thank Kenneth Rogoff for joining us.
1) On February 26, the GCPL met with students at Hudson High School’s New Dimensions course, which is an honors social sciences program at that school, in order to discuss various political topics. The New Dimensions program continues to be a great partner with the GCPL, with various possible programming opportunities.
2) We are all set to go for our GCPL trip to Switzerland, for which we leave in a few days, taking place over spring break. We have a variety of meetings and cultural events scheduled that will give varying insights into the Swiss political and financial system. If you would like to follow along on our trip, you can follow our Instagram at hiram_gcpl or on Facebook at Garfield Center for Public Leadership.
3) As we are now accepting applications for the 25-26 academic year, our recruitment efforts are in full swing. We have been working to connect with new potential members, and the response and interest thus far has been very enthusiastic. We encourage all interested students to apply or get in touch with us to further discuss the many programming opportunities available in the GCPL.
