Property Tax Exemptions

The deadline to file for and receive a full exemption to save money on your property taxes, such as the Homeowners' Exemption or Welfare Exemption for non-profits, is February 15, 2026.

You can now use our online community portal to file for exemptions and

it's not too late to book an in-person, one-on-one appointment with our staff if you have questions about eligibility or need help filing. You can make an appointment here and learn more about exemptions here.

Requesting Reductions in Assessed Value

From January 2 to March 31, 2026, residential property owners who believe the assessed (taxable) value of their home is higher than the market value may file an Informal Review Request to temporarily lower their assessed value.

This service is provided at no charge and is available to property owners in a single-family dwelling, residential condominiums, townhouses, live-work lofts, and cooperative units.

Learn more and use our new online community portal to file.

Swearing-in our new Police Chief

Last week, It was an honor to attend the swearing-in of our new Police Chief Derrick Lew. I look forward to continuing our work together through our role in fairly and accurately assessing all property which provides the bedrock for our City's financial security, including funding essential services for safety and well-being.

Celebrating Local Artists

Our local artists, teachers and advocates, including our First Latino Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguía and local filmmaker Louis Dematteis, don't just reflect history. They challenge it, shape it, and move people to action.

Now is the time to honor our roots, resistance, and the voices that continue to push our city forward. Last week at Brava Theater in the Mission we came together to do just that.

Recommitting Ourselves to the Work of
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Anchored by the power of working people, we honored Dr. MLK, Jr.  and the San Franciscans that carry forward his mission and legacy,  like Reverend Dr. Arelious Walker, who reminds us that our pursuit of truth, love, and justice is a labor we carry together.
