As the Myaamia Center staff winds down from another busy summer of Youth Programs and sneaks in some much-needed vacation time, we now turn our attention back to a new school year. This year we welcome 22 new Myaamia first-year students, our largest incoming cohort ever, adding to yet another milestone of 55 total Miami Tribe students on campus. Wow!

Celebrating Miami: Tribe and University Week 2026

October 30- November 4

Each year, the Myaamia Center partners with various departments across Miami University to honor and educate about the unique relationship between the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and the University during athletic events throughout the week.

Myaamia Education Office Updates

This week, the Myaamia Heritage class begins the fall semester as we welcome 22 new students to the class. They will join 33 returning students as we explore together the issues facing the Miami Nation in the 21st century. This first semester of the course has a special focus on governmental sovereignty and includes visits with a tribal attorney and the elected leaders of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma.

It is always exciting when students return to campus, and we are happy to welcome 55 Myaamia students, our largest cohort ever. Our first-year students moved in last week and spent a couple of days getting oriented to the Myaamia Heritage Program with help from a few upperclass students. This week we will have our first Myaamia Heritage Course session and host a retreat for all students on Friday. We have a lot of fun activities and workshops planned for the fall semester and look forward to a great new school year.
