Greetings Colleagues,
The focus of our final spotlight of the academic year will be on the Assessment branch of the Center for Faculty Excellence. The CFE leads university-wide efforts in assessment of student learning and quality assurance of our online learning environments. In collaboration with other members of the CFE, Sarah Oliver, M.Ed., MBA, Program Outcomes Specialist, leads the CFE’s assessment efforts. Sarah is well-known for her kind demeanor and personalized consultations, as well as her detailed and extremely helpful user guides for assessment processes.
CFE assessment efforts happen in three primary areas. First, the CFE coordinates student ratings of instruction using Campus Labs (also called Anthology Evaluate). Campus Labs includes the IDEA System which is a nationally normed and valid instrument that provides evidenced-based resources to support teaching effectiveness. Second, the CFE regularly reviews online courses using a modified Quality Matters rubric to ensure the quality of online, hybrid, and hyflex courses. Finally, the CFE is responsible for procedures related to annual program assessment.
The assessment work of the CFE is greatly supported by the dedicated members of the University Assessment Committee. Members are involved in peer review of assessment reports, planning of the annual assessment symposium (this year it’s expanded to include teaching and learning!), and review of HLC and university policies related to assessment.
In the spirit of celebrating assessment, please enjoy the CFE assessment highlights sprinkled throughout this newsletter from many of our initiatives from the past year!
Lou Jensen, OTD, OTR/L
Associate Vice Provost-Interim, Center for Faculty Excellence

| | News from the Taskforce for Advancing Assessment of Student Learning |
The taskforce has been working to facilitate more meaningful assessment practices that advance student learning and minimize barriers in annual assessment report submission. Milestones include creation of a streamlined program assessment template and submission through a BlueQ survey, plans for development of a more meaningful

peer review process including opportunities for consultation and mentoring, and creation of a BlueLine assessment report repository. The recommendations and work of the task force are also being used as our Quality Initiative Project (QIP) which is one of our requirements for institutional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
Feedback data results on the overall usability of the new annual assessment reporting system from those who have submitted thus far is very positive (5-point Likert scale; higher is more favorable):

Creighton colleagues from across the university opened their classrooms for a pilot project called Open Nest. Creighton faculty visited and observed classes, whether in person, synchronously via Zoom or Panopto, or remotely by exploring an online asynchronous course. The pilot project lead faculty to learn from each other and continue to build a community of educators at Creighton interested in pedagogy.

Featured Program: What an Instructional Designer Can Do With You |
Instructional work is immensely rewarding, but also time-consuming, and even more challenging in isolation. These were just a few of the perspectives shared recently when CFE Instructional Designer Cristina Vélez, MS Ed. facilitated a panel discussion with faculty about working with an Instructional Designer. Panelists, Brooke Kowalke, PhD, English and Medical Humanities. College of Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine, CFE Faculty Associate; Mary Lee Brock, MEd, Negotiation, Conflict, & Resolution Director, Heider College of Business; and Joy Doll, OTD, OTR/L, Health Informatics Program Director, College of Arts and Sciences described the nature of their collaborations, and expressed the value and benefit the ID-Faculty partnership can bring for both faculty and students. To learn more about the Instructional Designers and what they can do with you, please see the following resources: handout and program recording.
