Dear colleagues,
It was great to see many of you in person last week as we welcomed students back to campus.
As we all return to our fall semester routines, here are the top five things to know this week:
|
| |
|
- The office of the President and Provost are offering a limited number of grants for signature events that focus on at least one of the four Vision 2026 Cornerstone initiatives of Data, Water, Democracy and Careers. Read more about the application process.
-
Faculty and their research students are invited to join an Applied Research & Innovation Initiative Workshop on Bridging Career Readiness Competencies and Research Experiences. The workshop takes place on Wednesday, September 11, at noon. John Swaddle will walk through an exercise that helps students learn key career competencies and then helps you, as mentors, strategize ways to support those competencies.
-
Earlier today, you received an email from the executive sponsors of the Workday project letting you know that they are deploying a survey to all faculty and staff to gather initial feedback on the project. Please be on the lookout for the survey on September 10 and take the time to share your thoughts to help inform an effective implementation.
-
Prior to the opening of the William & Mary Art & Science Exchange (ASE) proposal submission window, which was introduced in last week’s 5 Things, ASE will host two I.D.E.A. Exchanges on Monday, September 9, 2024 from noon to 2:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Glenn Close Theatre of PBK Memorial Hall.
-
This week’s shoutout goes to our dedicated IT team members who have been providing ongoing support as we transition to Blackboard Ultra. As a reminder, IT has provided a guide to Ultra Courses, and you can always contact the Technology Support Center at support@wm.edu. We appreciate their expertise!
|
Finally, as I mentioned in last week’s note, I strongly encourage you to consider attending one of the upcoming Better Arguments workshops hosted by the Democracy Initiative. Openings remain on Sept. 5, Sept. 10, and Sept. 18; the workshop on Sept. 30 is at capacity.
As we look toward this fall semester, it can be challenging to navigate the unpredictable nature of an election year, but I’m confident that by focusing on W&M’s commitment to democratic ideals, we can continue to foster an environment of learning and productivity for students and faculty alike, which these workshops are intended to support.
