Do You Have a Medicaid Story?

Right now, Congress is deciding how and where to cut $880 billion from Medicaid. Medicaid is a significant funder of Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) programs across the country. Cuts or changes to the program would devastate the 80 million people who depend on Medicaid funding for survival

Now’s the time for each of us to use our expertise and experience to speak to the devastating effects Medicaid cuts will have in our communities. We can show Congress why Medicaid is critical for HCH programs, providers, and clients through our very real frontline stories. Got a story to share? Learn more below.

Let's Hear It for the First 15 NIMRC Certified Medical Respite Programs!

The National Institute for Medical Respite Care (NIMRC) was created in 2020 as a special program of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council to help expand and advance medical respite care. After five years of rapid changes and expansive growth in the field, we're excited to share what's next!

On April 1, 2025, we'll officially launch a voluntary NIMRC Certification process for interested medical respite or recuperative care programs. This application window will be open between April 1-15.

We send our gratitude and congratulations to the 15 programs that helped the Council's medical respite team test and pilot the NIMRC Certification process. Their participation was instrumental in helping us develop an effective and reliable certification process for the field.

PhotoVoice Project Explores Kicking Tobacco

In the winter of 2025, NHCHC and five lived-experience leaders used photography and written narratives to explore challenges people experiencing homelessness face when trying to reduce or quit tobacco use.

A woman wearing a knit cap smiles brightly as she stands in front of a display case that includes one of her photographs.

The images and narratives are on display at Pruitt Library in Nashville through April 6, 2025, and will be displayed at the 2026 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference & Policy Symposium in Orlando, Fla.
