Dear Eagle Nation:
As we enter the final week of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, I would like to commend the students, faculty, staff, and administrators who have showcased Coppin State's commitment to preventing sexual assault and sexual misconduct in our communities.
President Anthony L. Jenkins with Sexual Assault Summit keynote speaker

The Title IX Office partnered with student groups and other groups for our first Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Summit held on Friday, April 21. The summit was a powerful time to come together in order to educate ourselves and others about the issue of sexual assault, as well as the importance of vigilance and prevention in eliminating sexual assault in our communities.
Members of our campus and students from other HBCUs took part in important and impactful conversations, including a discussion centered on consent, and building trust.

The summit was followed by a lock-in, where members of the Coppin community and other guests performed art that sparked additional conversation about the important topic of sexual assault.

I hope everyone will wear denim for Wear Denim Day on Wednesday, April 26. Wear Denim Day encourages people to wear denim to protest against sexual assault, raise awareness of the misconceptions, and show support for survivors of sexual violence.
During Wear Denim Day, you can  connect with organizations that provide resources for survivors of sexual assault, including MCASA, Mercy Medical Center, House of Ruth Maryland, Family Crisis Center, Planned Parenthood, and the Center for Counseling and Student Development here at Coppin State.
The Wear Denim Day event will take place from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Talon Center Lobby.
Thank you to everyone who have helped raise awareness of this important issue and I look forward to continue our critical conversations year-round.
