Fall semester faculty and staff workshops cover a wide variety of topics, including strategies for assigning and discussing readings (Block 2), best practices for convergence classes (Block 3), and opportunities to participate in the Generative Futures Mellon Grant (Block 4). In addition, the Crown Center is excited to announce a new series of workshops designed to support early career faculty members. MAP is delighted to welcome two new mentors to the program. Mike Angstadt, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies & Science, and Aline Lo, Associate Professor of English, will support our new tenure-track faculty as they begin their careers at CC.

This year, Crown is adding blockly early career faculty workshops designed to provide equitable access to key information and skills for professional success. While geared toward newer faculty, the workshops are open to everyone. Visit the Crown Center workshop page for details.

Crown is launching the sixth year of its Instructional Coaching program, which has trained more than 20 coaches and supported more than 70 colleagues in strengthening their teaching practices.

This year, three new coaches will join the program: Jean Lee, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies & Science; Juan Miguel Arias, Assistant Professor of Education; and Marketa Raevsky, Visiting Instructor in Education and French. They will complete Instructional Coaching Training during Block 1 and begin working with coachees this fall, alongside seven returning experienced coaches.

The program pairs colleagues for collaborative support around instructional design and delivery, including syllabus and assessment design, classroom observations, feedback, and goal setting. Coachees identify the areas of their teaching they would like to strengthen, and coaches help them work toward those goals.

This year-long program offers participants opportunities to explore methodologies and options for incorporating creative thinking and problem-solving activities into their courses. The cohort meets for two immersive sessions on the Thursdays of Block Breaks 1 and 3, September 17 and November 12, along with a series of shorter workshops. It is open to all faculty. Thank you to everyone who has participated in or expressed interest in Generative Futures: Critical Language Inquiry in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, our Mellon Humanities for All Times grant. So far, more than 50 colleagues attended our Educator Development Day, 55 faculty participated in summer reading groups, and 26 new and revised course development grants were awarded. As the project enters its next phase, we are seeking two additional faculty members to join the core team. The NEH Professorship offers Humanities in Partnership Grants (HIP) of up to $3,000 for faculty projects that connect to NEH themes. Grants are offered in three categories: HIP Teaching Grants, HIP Event Sponsorships, and Microgrants.
