Forest of Memories exhibition in Reinberger Gallery

Forest of Memories is an ambitious, immersive multimedia installation of curated experiences inspired by the wonders of the natural world. Using handmade sculptural elements, more than 35,000 LED lights, projection mapping and interactive sound, Sculpture + Expanded Media students imagine a world being reclaimed by nature and transformed into an extraordinary liminal space of maximalist possibility.

Forest of Memories will be on view from November 10 to January 12, 2024 in CIA's Reinberger Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8pm Friday, November 10. Remarks begin at 6pm.
During the opening, stop by Ground Work, a show examining the process work of Foundation year students on view through November 10 in the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery. Sample Time, a show that celebrates the beauty and experimentation of the artistic process is also on view in CIA's Donna and Stewart Kohl Corridor through November 10.

CIA junior wins international Visual Arts Open prize

James Schaffer, a junior double majoring in Painting and Drawing, was slected as the People's Choice Award winner in the Visual Art Open UK & International Emerging Artist Awards. Schaffer won with his work "I'm More Than."

Students show work in juried exhibition

CIA students Caroline Abbey '26, Gwen Canfield '26, Wes Cunningham '24, Zion Monice Jones '24, Annie O'Brien '25, Grace Gielink '24 and Tom Spyker '25 were selected to show work in Aggregate, a juried exhibition for Ohio students with The School of Art Collection and Galleries at Kent State University. The show is on view at the KSU Downtown Gallery in Kent Ohio through December 9. 

Jurors needed for Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Office of Continuing Education + Community Outreach is recruiting jurors for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This will be CIA’s 44th year celebrating creative teens by hosting the Greater Cleveland Regional Awards. Judging for the art awards will take place via Zoom on Saturday, December 16 between 10am and 6pm. Judging for the writing awards will be virtual and self-paced between Friday, December 15 and Friday, January 5, 2024. This is a great opportunity to see new trends in art and writing while supporting young artists and writers in the Greater Cleveland region. Viktor Schreckengost '29*, Joseph O’Sickey '40*, Julian Stanczak '54*, Clara Deike 1912* and Abel Warshawsky 1905* will be part of Bonfoey Gallery’s 130th Anniversary Exhibition, which opens from 5 to 8pm Friday, October 6 at the gallery (1710 Euclid Ave., Cleveland).
Andy Yoder '83 has a traveling exhibition, Overboard, on view at Tysons Corner Center in Vienna, Virginia. 
William Moore '84 has work in the 3rd Annual Awards 2023 with Biafarin in Toronto. 
Joan Neubecker '85, Robert Muller '87, Todd Hoak '91, Laura D’Alessandro '93 and Sean Mabin '93 had work in Art of the Trade: Artists Collecting Artists Doubting Thomas Gallery in Cleveland.
Judy Takács ’86 received the first-place award in the 2023 Art of the Heartland National Competition with Southwest Artists and Mena Gallery in Mena, Arkansas. Takács was also awarded first-place at the 21st Annual Kaleidoscope Juried Exhibition at Summit Artspace in Akron, Ohio, and had work in the Second Annual Paul and Norma Tikkanen Painting Prize at Ashtabula Arts Center in Ashtabula, Ohio and the 14th Annual Figurative Drawing and Painting Competition with Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. 
Karen Beckwith '87Jeff Benedetto '79, Dawn Tekler '94 and Timothy Callaghan '99 will have work in The Cleveland Show at YARDS Projects in Cleveland, opening with a reception on November 30 at 5:30pm. 
Jenniffer Omaitz '02 curated Tangents: Abstract & Geometric Art in Northeast Ohio at Artists Archives of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. The show also features work from Susan Squires '83, Mark Howard '86 and Natalie Lanese '05 and opens with a reception on November 2 from 5:30 to 8pm.

Michael Schmidt '04 will show two animated short films in the Short Shorts Festival at Youngstown State University's McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown, Ohio through November 4.
Mark Reigelman '06 discussed his installation work, "Threshold," with South Coast Today
Omari Souza '09 will give a lecture, "Inclusivity Matters: Elevating Voices in the Anthology of Blackness," with Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative at Third Space Action Lab in Cleveland. Michael Laudi '17 was part of a team that designed the Night Owl Stroller, which won a 2023 JPMA Award
Riley Rist '21 had work in The Clay Cup VI: Vessel, Icon, Canvas at the University of Missouri’s George Caleb Bingham Gallery in Columbia, Missouri and the Annual Cup Show 2023 at the Krikorian Gallery in Worcester, Massachusetts. 
Frank Hadzima '23 has work in the 52nd Annual Juried Art Exhibition at Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. The show will open with a reception on November 3 from 6 to 8pm and also features work from Judy Takács '86, Kimberly Chapman '17, Violet Maimbourg '21, Madeline Davis ’22Tamsyn Kuehnert '23, and Graphic Design + Communications Specialist Brittney Esther.
Congratulations to The Paul and Norma Tikkanen Painting Prize winners: Amy Casey '99 for First Place Realism, Jenniffer Omaitz '02 for First Place Abstract, and Honorable Mention winners Timothy Callaghan '99Kelly Pontoni '19, and Painting sophomore Theadis Reagins.
