Dear Tulane Community,

Green Wave Football Head Coach Jon Sumrall informed us today that he has accepted the head coach position at the University of Florida. Coach Sumrall will coach the Green Wave in the Dec. 5 American Conference Championship game and in any College Football Playoff appearance.

Since returning in 2023 to Tulane, where he had previously served as the Green Wave’s co-defensive coordinator from 2012-14, Coach Sumrall has posted a 19-7 record and led the team to two American Conference championship game appearances – which are part of its record four American Conference championship game appearances in a row.

We wish Coach Sumrall every success in the future, and we are grateful for his continuation of the proud legacy of Green Wave football, as well as the impact he has made in the lives of our student-athletes.

We have hired a national search firm to quickly identify our football program’s new leader. Our goal is to find a coach who will continue to place the well-being and development of our student-athletes first and foremost, while elevating the profile and upward trajectory of our football program as a critical part of the university’s overall mission of excellence. This is our commitment to our student-athletes, alumni and fans.
