To the Stevens Community:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are delighted to announce that the Board has unanimously voted to extend the term of President Nariman Farvardin for three years beyond his current contract which expires June 30, 2026. President Farvardin will continue to lead Stevens through June 30, 2029.

We are enormously proud of and grateful to President Farvardin for the exemplary leadership he has exhibited since 2011. President Farvardin has led Stevens to unprecedented levels of success and prestige, navigating through challenging periods such as COVID-19 and stabilizing Stevens’ finances through enrollment growth and a strategic and disciplined approach to financial management.

In his early days in this role, he coalesced the campus community to develop an aspirational vision for the future, a 10-year strategic plan entitled, The Future. Ours to Create., 2012-2022, which catalyzed the university’s ascent in a number of important metrics. Continuing progress has been made through the subsequent decadal strategic plan, Stevens 2032: Inspired by Humanity, Powered by Technology. The remarkable progress since 2011 includes:

  • Undergraduate enrollment: +75%
  • Median SAT score of the first-year cohort: +157 points
  • Graduation rate increased to 87%: +8 points
  • Graduate enrollment: +73%
  • Operating revenue: +128%
  • Research awards: +200%
  • Faculty size: +62% increase overall and +73% among tenured and tenure-stream faculty
  • Size of the endowment: +148%
  • Annual gifts and pledges: +466%

In addition, President Farvardin spearheaded the completion of Stevens’ most ambitious fundraising campaign in its history, the $200 million The Power of Stevens campaign and oversaw the completion of more than $500 million of campus infrastructure investments, including the iconic University Center Complex and the Gateway Academic Center. Innovative educational initiatives, including the Pinnacle Scholars program, Clark Scholars, iSTEM and Stevens ACES, as well as the Ansary Entrepreneurship Competition and the pioneering new core curriculum, SUCCESS, are a direct result of President Farvardin’s foresight and vision.

President Farvardin now holds the distinction of being the longest-serving president of any university in New Jersey, public or private. His leadership and impact have been recognized through numerous honors and awards, including the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Academic Leadership Award, the American Council on Education/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

Please join us in thanking President Nariman Farvardin for his tireless dedication, sage management and transparent and collegial leadership of our university and giving him our full support as he guides Stevens through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
