Hello from the Snowbowl!
We are excited to share some of the summer projects we have underway. As always, our summer months are focused on the important behind-the-scenes projects, maintenance, and repairs across the whole area. It is a lot of work for our small team, and their dedication and love of the Bowl is what keeps us excited.
THE BIG NEWS – Preserving Snowbowl History
Rumors are true! We are moving the “old cabin.”
The historic Hubbard Cabin is one of the most important pieces of Snowbowl and skiing history. Originally built by the Middlebury Winter Sports Club in 1938, the cabin served as the original base lodge before the current Starr Lodge was constructed.
This cabin is sentimental for many reasons, notably the many community members who once occupied it, but we also have reason to believe it may be the oldest standing ski lodge in the United States. How cool! The cabin was founded by Richard Hubbard ’36, who later served as the full-time coach for the men’s and women’s alpine teams.
This history is rich, and we have decided to transform this incredible cabin as the new home of the Middlebury Alpine Team and bring it back to the community.
What does this mean for Starr Lodge?
At the same time, we are continuing work inside Starr Lodge to improve the guest experience. We have taken many of your considerations and recommendations into account while designing the space to be more welcoming, functional, and better suited to the way you would like to use the lodge today.
WHAT WE NEED – Join the Effort
Projects like these are possible because of the people who care deeply about the Snowbowl. These projects are entirely gift funded and intended to give back to the community.
We are incredibly grateful for the support that has already been shown for this work, and we invite you to be a part of the effort. Every gift helps preserve an important piece of Snowbowl history while also improving the everyday experience for our guests, passholders, students, families, and community members.
Please donate today. Every gift matters.
Thank you for being a part of this deep Snowbowl community. We have something very special, and I am so thankful to be a part of it.
We look forward to sharing more updates as these projects continue to take shape.
See you on the hill!
