Bridging Campus and Community

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2025 SJSU Economic Summit!

What does the future hold for our local, state and national economies? That was the big question on everyone’s mind at the 2025 SJSU Economic Summit. On June 18, close to 400 business and community leaders, students, faculty and staff gathered at San José State’s Morris Dailey Auditorium to hear from economists and business leaders.

Greetings from Dean Kannan

September 15, 2025

Together as Spartans, we continue to create, impact and strengthen our community. At the Economic Summit, our students engaged alongside business and civic leaders on issues shaping our region’s competitiveness. On National Intern Day, we celebrated students applying their knowledge in internships with leading companies across technology, consulting, and policy. Our MTI team and some SJSU design students demonstrated how innovation reimagines experiences, while professors Sarika Pruthi and Nathaniel Lupton earned national recognition with the AIB Insights Award. We closed the summer season with a spirited tailgate in support of our Spartan football team, where alumni, faculty, staff, and friends came together in pride and connection. These moments reflect the very best of who we are—an inclusive, collaborative community committed to excellence. I look forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead as we continue to learn, lead, and thrive together.

National Intern Day: SJSU Business Students Share Their 2025 Summer Internship Journeys

July's National Intern Day was a day many of our Spartans celebrated as a day to mark their accomplishment. We aimed a deserving spotlight on some of our business students who landed summer internships. This summer, they were diving deep into diverse industries, from tech to consumer goods, and developing essential skills. We asked a few of them about the skills they’ve developed and how these opportunities are shaping their future career goals.

SJSU Students Create a New Look for MTI’s Summer Program

This spring, students in San José State University’s Graphic Design BFA program tried their hands at real-world transportation communication through a unique collaboration with the Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI). With MTI’s $1,000 sponsorship of the program’s BFA Senior Show, a team of design students worked on a real-world client project: rebranding the Mineta Summer Transportation Academy (MiSTA), MTI’s flagship high school program that introduces teens to careers in transit, tech, and mobility.

Graduate Business Student Association elevates MBA candidate experience through mentorships, meet-ups, and more

When San José State University’s Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA) was established, it set its sights on providing a thriving platform for Lucas Graduate School of Business students to come together to share resources and enhance their educational experience.

Moreover, GBSA’s mentorship program aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world business practices, offering guidance and support to students navigating their careers, according to GBSA president Ali Hamed, ’26 MBA.

As Hamed explains it, “Mentors and mentees are paired based on their professional interests, career goals and areas of expertise. This matching process ensures that each participant receives relevant guidance tailored to their aspirations.”
