As we continue to foster an environment of open dialogue and intellectual growth, we want to remind our community about the importance of free expression and our unwavering commitment to campus safety and security.
On Monday, November 11, the student organization Students for Justice in Palestine will hold a demonstration from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the northwest section of Schaefer Lawn. This event serves as an example of how our campus embraces diverse viewpoints while maintaining a secure environment for all.
We'd like to highlight a few key points:
|
-
Safety First: The event organizers have worked closely with Student Affairs to ensure compliance with our Guidelines for Assembly. We have implemented comprehensive safety measures, and our campus security team will be present to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Any violation of Stevens’ policies, including discrimination, harassment, violence or disruptive conduct, will not be tolerated.
-
Exclusive to Our Community: To preserve the integrity of campus discussions, this event is open only to current Stevens community members with valid identification.
- Maintaining Normal Campus Operations: We anticipate no disruption to regular campus activities. Classes and other scheduled events will proceed as usual.
-
Free Expression, Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination: As an institution of higher learning, we recognize the importance of upholding the values of freedom of speech, peaceful assembly and academic freedom. Also of critical importance are Stevens’ fundamental values of inclusivity and non-discrimination as set forth in our policies. These values are fundamental to our educational mission.
-
Support and Reflection Opportunities: We understand that some community members will have concerns about this event. Our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team is available to listen and provide support and guidance to any student seeking assistance.
-
Upholding Respectful Conduct: While we anticipate a peaceful and respectful event, we remind all community members to report any behavior that violates our campus policies to Dr. Stacy Fisher, director of Community Standards and Title IX Coordinator.

We're proud of our students' engagement with important societal issues and their commitment to respectful dialogue. Events like these contribute to the rich tapestry of experiences that define a Stevens education. We will issue similar messages to alert you to future demonstrations that are approved by Stevens to take place on campus.
Thank you for your continued dedication to making Stevens a place of learning, growth and mutual respect.
