Thanksgiving Ideas for families |
|
|
Gratitude really does change us. It shifts our perspective and helps us look for the blessings, the joys, the little and big things in life that are good.
As a family, here are a few simple ideas to foster thankfulness this Thanksgiving season.
- Have each person write or draw, on a post-it note, something they are thankful for about someone in the family. Ex. dad's laugh. mom's help, etc...
- See if you can individually express gratitude to one person during the day at school or work. That night, share that interaction over dinner.
- Do random acts of kindness individually or as a family, and notice that person's reaction. These can be small things, opening doors for or smiling at someone.
- List things as a family, during your meal together, that make you smile.
Have fun and see what you notice, as your family looks for gratitude this month.

Gently used Halloween costumes |
|
|
A little different request, the HOMELESS Pantry is requesting lightly used Halloween costumes be donated to HERO.
This is for HERO ( children experiencing homelessness) who are living at various places, but often in a facility with other children, and will be there all week.
They are thinking that since kids are going to be 'home' all week during Thanksgiving this year, it is a fun way to do something a little different.
There will be a box by the office for collection.

Food Drive
In light of the SNAP crisis, there is a need to help support the Martha O'Bryan Center Food Ministry. They are the busiest food bank in the city and have partnered with Second Harvest. Due to the location in public housing and close to Downtown, they are experiencing a high demand for food.
We will have collection boxes at the Mayfair and North Entrances for canned goods to help these agencies help our neighbors
If you would like to donate, the following items are in need:
Proteins: Peanut butter, canned or dried beans, lentils, canned chicken, tuna
Whole Grains: Brown rice, whole-grain pasta, and whole-grain cereals or oats.
Canned Goods: Vegetables (preferably low-sodium), Fruits (packed in juice or water, not syrup), Soups, stews, and chilis (low-sodium)
Cooking Staples: Cooking oil, and spices like salt, pepper, and other dried herbs.
Healthy Snacks: Granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit (with no added sugar).
For more info, please contact Tom McDow, current Board member, Martha O'Bryan.
