Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that we announce the recipient of the 2024 Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Distinguished Alumni of the Year award: Mary Moss Chandran ’08, Pharm.D. ’12.
Chandran is a clinical pharmacist practitioner specializing in abdominal solid organ transplantation at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals and Clinics, where she provides care in outpatient transplant settings. After graduating in 2012, Chandran completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency and a PGY2 solid organ transplant pharmacy residency at UNC Medical Center. She now practices as an advanced practice provider and delivers direct, specialized care to both adult and pediatric transplant patients.
Chandran's contributions to our profession have been unique and innovative, addressing complex health care delivery challenges. She established the first pediatric transplant pharmacist service at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and helped develop a new clinic focused on decreasing the waitlist time for patients in need of transplant.
In addition to her clinical work, Chandran is an adjunct associate professor and co-directs the solid organ transplant elective at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, which she co-developed. She is a board-certified transplant pharmacist and board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, and has been named a fellow of both the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Transplantation.
Chandran is an active contributor to pharmaceutical research, with more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 poster and platform presentations at national and international conferences. She has spoken at the American Transplant Congress and the International Pediatric Transplant Association Congress, and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Meeting. She currently serves as chair of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Solid Organ Transplant Specialty Council and leads the Transplant Pharmacy Community of Practice within the American Society of Transplantation. She also serves on the Medical Advisory Council for Transplant Families, providing critical resources and education to pediatric transplant recipients and caregivers.
Chandran is an exemplary alumna who has made significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy and solid organ transplantation. She will be recognized for her achievements at our school’s alumni reunion for the classes of 2010, 2015 and 2020, taking place on Saturday, August 2, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the UC San Diego Faculty Club.
