LIBRARY CLOSINGS FOR NOVEMBER The Library will be closed on Saturday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The Library will be closing early on Wednesday, November 22 at 5 p.m. and will remain closed through Friday, November 24 in observance of Thanksgiving; it will reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 25.

SPECIAL EVENTS
KIDS AND OLDER ADULT BINGO Thursday, November 9 | 1 p.m. Looking for a fun early release day activity? Join us for Multigenerational Bingo! It’s simple to play. The host calls out numbers for attendees to mark off on their Bingo card. The first player to mark off five in a row and call out "BINGO" wins the game and will receive a prize (a $5 gift certificate to Kimball Farm Ice Cream). With multiple Bingo games throughout the program, there will be plenty of chances to win. For ages 5 to 10 (with their caregivers) and older adults (ages 60+). Register online.

COAHS MOVIE Tuesday, November 21 | 1 p.m. Carlisle COAHS and Gleason Library present Random Harvest (1942): An amnesiac World War I veteran falls in love with a music hall star, only to suffer an accident which restores his original memories but erases his post-war life.

TURTLE RESCUE LEAGUE Monday, November 6 | 6 p.m. **WAITLIST** Join us for talk by a representative from the Turtle Rescue League, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center that rehabilitates turtles that have been injured, rescues eggs, and provides resources for turtle pet owners in Massachusetts. ANGORA WOOL SPINNING WITH WINTERBERRY HOMESTEAD Wednesday, November 15 | 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. **WAITLIST FOR BOTH SESSIONS** Join us to brush and feed adorable angora rabbits! After, we'll learn how to spin angora fiber on drop spindles. All participants leave with spindles and fiber to keep on spinning. NATURE CONNECTION STORY TIME Thursday, November 9 | 10:30 a.m. Join The Nature Connection as we explore plants and animals and connect with the world around us in new ways—all through nature-based stories and poems! During this monthly 45-minute program for 3–6-year-olds, we will read a seasonally appropriate story followed by a sensory engagement activity. Registration is required; please register for each session individually. This fun program is sponsored by the Susan Zielinski Natural Science Fund.

Baby Lapsit Tuesdays, October 3–November 21 | 10:30–11 a.m. Baby Lapsit is a 30-minute interactive story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, and bounces that are developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they start walking. This Lapsit program is just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers, and babies to learn and play, and to develop language, early literacy, and motor skills. Come prepared to sit on the floor one-on-one with your baby in your lap. This program is designed for newborn through pre-walking baby. Please register for each week.
Toddler Story Time Tuesdays, October 3–November 21 | 11:00–11:30 a.m. Toddler Story Time is a 30-minute interactive story time experience for our young library users and their caregivers. Join us for stories, songs, movement, and a sensory activity or craft that are developmentally appropriate for children from 15 months to 3 years of age. Enjoy time together with fellow parents, caregivers and little ones to learn, play and develop language, early literacy, and motor skills. Please register for each week.
Fall Preschool Story Time Fridays, October 6–November 17 | 10:30–11:15 a.m. Join us from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. for a fun story time. This event is chock full of interactive stories, rhymes, fingerplays, songs and a small craft. Our story time program, designed for children ages 3 to 6, promotes reading readiness and early literacy skills. Please register for each week.

1st & 2nd Grade Book Club Tuesday, November 7 | 4 p.m. Have your first- or second-grader join us at the Gleason Library's 1st & 2nd Grade Book Club! Each month we'll meet in person at the Library to talk about our book of the month. After discussion, we will do a craft, activity or game. This month's selection is Yasmin in Charge by Saadia Faruqi. Copies of the book will be available to check out at the library at the circulation desk on the first floor. Registration is required; participants only need to register once for the entire school year. TEEN BANNED BOOK CLUB Thursday, November 16 | 7 p.m. Have you heard about books being challenged in school libraries, or even public ones? Censorship is on the rise in America, and this group is for high school students who are curious about these books that are being challenged. We will choose one book each month to read and discuss together. Join us at our first meeting on Zoom (we may choose to meet in person going forward), which will mostly be planning out how this group will meet and what books we might want to read together. This group is for students in grades 9-12. Registration is required.

5TH & 6TH GRADE BOOK CLUB Thursday, November 2 | 4 p.m. Come for a book discussion and activity! Each month we will read a book and talk about it, then we will do a short activity or craft. TEEN ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, November 2 | 7 p.m. Use your voice and help the Gleason Library become even better! The Teen Advisory Board will meet once a month to discuss the Library, what you think would be most helpful to you as teens, and to just hang out with your peers to talk about school, what you're reading and/or watching, and life in general. EARLY RELEASE DAY MOVIE Wednesday, November 9 | 1:15 p.m. Middle schoolers can join us in the Hollis Room every Early Release Day at 1:15 p.m. for a movie and snacks! This month's movie is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of approx. 1 hr 34 min. For grades 5-8.

TEEN WEEKEND READING KIT Friday, November 17 | 10 a.m Grab a kit that has everything you need for a book-lover's weekend. Each kit will include a random YA novel for you to keep (genres and reading/maturity levels will vary), a craft or activity, a snack, a little bookish accessory, and something to sip on. Registration is required to reserve your kit, and pickup will be Friday, November 17 through Monday, November 20. These kits are for grades 7-12. FOGPL ANNUAL MEETING: THE POWER OF STORY TELLING Tuesday, November 14 | 7–8:30 p.m. Join the Friends of Gleason Public Library as they present two local newly-published nonfiction authors, Nick Shaw and Joe Wallace, for a compelling presentation on "The Power of Storytelling." Nick’s book, My Teacher, My Son, reflects on his journey through grief after the death of his son, William, in a skiing accident. Joe’s book, The Day after Yesterday, is a collection of portraits and personal stories of those living with dementia. This is a hybrid event. MEET THE FRIENDLY FLIES Thursday, November 16 | 7 p.m. MEET THE FRIENDLY FLIES! Stay that hand before you swat one of these two-winged wonders! We humans harbor too many fears and misconceptions about our friends the flies. Sure, some of them can cause trouble, but can you think of one creature on earth that can’t? Come learn more about our friends the flies! Please join the Carlisle Conservation Foundation and the Gleason Library for "Meet the Friendly Flies," a visual and reflective introduction to flies, with educator and insect enthusiast, Linda Graetz. Like our fellow humans, there are thousands of flies out there ready to help us thrive on this beautiful planet. And, like our fellow humans, there are flies whose fascinating lives and sheer beauty just might fill you with awe. Flies are a complex group of insects, some we call "bad" and some we call "good"." That alone leads us to reflect more deeply on our permanent and unbreakable bond to the natural world. Registration is required.

THE WINTER BLUES: DEFEATING SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (VIRTUAL) Thursday, November 30 | 7 p.m. Join Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal for strategies to identify, treat, and overcome Seasonal Affective Disorder. Dr. Norman Rosenthal is the world renowned psychiatrist, researcher, and best-selling author, who first described seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and pioneered the use of light therapy as a treatment during his twenty years at the National Institute of Mental Health. A prolific researcher and author, he has authored or co-authored over three hundred scholarly articles and ten popular books. These include Winter Blues, Poetry Rx, the New York Times bestseller Transcendence and the national bestsellers, The Gift of Adversity and Super Mind. His latest book is Defeating SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder): A Guide to Health and Happiness Through All Seasons.

READING POETRY ANEW Tuesday, November 7 | 10 a.m. Dip or dive into the pleasures of poetry. This informal course, led by Mary Zoll, will include poetry readings and reactions, discussions of the patterns and techniques used in the poems, and perhaps some intellectual understanding of the poems. This class meets one Tuesday a month. Mary Zoll has published a few poems and read a multitude of poems.
