Dear Friends,

In a year marked by uncertainty, upheaval, and record-breaking climate devastation, one truth remains clear: Grassroots women leaders are the light that refuses to go out. They are planting seeds of resilience, restoring ecosystems, protecting sacred lands, and nourishing their communities—even as challenges grow.

Yet while the need for action continues to rise, charitable giving has dropped by $17 billion. In moments like these—when the stakes are too high and the work is too urgent—Women’s Earth Alliance and our grassroots partners aren’t pausing or pulling back. Instead, we will do what we’ve done for generations: turn to each other. To the grassroots. To the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who are tirelessly taking action. To you.

Together, we can meet this moment with courage, care, and lasting solutions. But we need your support. Here’s how your contribution empowers grassroots leadership:

  • $10: Helps a woman in East Africa plant a climate-resilient garden to feed her family year-round, even amid climate shocks like floods and droughts.
  • $40: Equips a farmer in Northeast India with the tools needed to transition her farm to organic, promoting safe, healthy, and sustainable food production.
  • $125: Provides a seed grant for a woman entrepreneur in East Africa to start an eco-business, creating financial security for her family through forest- and earth-friendly products and practices.
  • $250: Supplies women-led agroecological projects in Mexico with the essential tools, seeds, and materials to build resilient, thriving communities.
  • $500: Equips youth leaders in South Los Angeles with seeds, tools, and lab equipment for bioremediation projects, improving community health and advancing ecological restoration.

We know that grassroots solutions—the ones that endure through every crisis—depend on collective support. Your generosity today sustains the future we all need.

We invite you to stand with us and the women leaders driving transformative change. Now is the time to keep giving. Because when we invest in women’s leadership, we invest in a thriving future for all.
Give to WEA today!

Updates from our Work

Celebrating Collective Power for Climate Justice at AWID

Earlier this month, WEA’s Daniela Perez (North America/Pacific Program Director) and Laura Vigil Escalera Mier Mier (Mexico Regional Coordinator) joined women leaders from across Latin America at the AWID Forum’s Latin American Hub in Mexico City. In the opening session, "Experiences of Climate Resilience & Decoloniality in Latin America," which our team had the honor of moderating, participants shared stories of defending their lands, bridging generations, and grounding climate action in traditional knowledge. These narratives highlighted that climate justice is inextricably tied to women's leadership, and the solutions we seek must come from those most impacted by the crises we face.

The gathering underscored the transformative power of creativity, healing, and collective action in resisting oppressive systems and shaping a just and sustainable future. By centering women's leadership and grassroots solutions, spaces like AWID amplify the essential work of building a thriving, equitable world for our communities and planet.

Daniela reflected, "This forum reminded me that while the challenges we face are vast, so is our collective power. Together, we are creating a world rooted in care, creativity, and liberation—something we can all be part of."

WEA’s Indonesia Collaboratory: A Circle of Strength and Action

Earlier this month, WEA convened 24 women environmental leaders from 18 provinces for the Indonesia Grassroots Accelerator Collaboratory in Bali. Since 2019, WEA’s Indonesia programs have engaged over 100 women across the archipelago, fostering leadership in forest restoration, eco-entrepreneurship, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable waste management.

Over five transformative days, these leaders—from the mountains of Papua to the coasts of Sumatra—shared strategies, received mentorship, and deepened connections. Collectively, they are protecting ecosystems that support more than 270 million people in Indonesia. As one participant reflected, “We’re not just planting trees; we’re planting hope, resilience, and the future of our communities."

We are so honored to stand alongside these women, knowing the bonds created here will continue to strengthen communities and protect our Earth for generations to come.

Women-Led Climate Action and Community Resilience Thrives in Mexico

This fall, WEA and our Mexico Program Leads launched six powerful initiatives advancing climate action, sustainability, and community resilience. From coral and kelp monitoring with Sirenas de México to a tilapia hatchery project in the wake of Hurricane John with Afrocaracolas, these efforts are strengthening ecosystems and livelihoods.

In Milpa Alta, Mujeres de la Tierra, Mujeres de la Periferia broke ground on the Escuelita de la Tierra, an educational hub for environmental stewardship, while Unión de Pueblos de Morelos’ (UPM) Feminist Agroecology School trained 48 women across 16 regions of the state of Morelos in sustainable farming practices. These initiatives are just a glimpse of the transformative power of women-led solutions throughout Mexico’s diverse landscapes.

Centering Black Joy and Women’s Leadership in Marine Science at BIMS Week

WEA had the honor of supporting and attending Black in Marine Science (BIMS) Week 2024 in San Diego, a transformative gathering designed by BIMS Founder and WEA Leader Dr. Tiara Moore and her dedicated team. This week-long event brought together Black marine students, researchers, and advocates for expert-led workshops, wellness activities, and meaningful connection.

WEA’s North America and Pacific Program Manager, Kiya Leake, joined the event, connecting with inspiring Black women scientists and changemakers who are reshaping the marine and environmental sciences. Together, participants elevated each other’s voices, shared knowledge, and celebrated Black joy and excellence in marine science.

We are so honored to support this work and witness how these leaders continue to make waves in the marine science world!

Building a Better World: WEA x Love Tropics

We are thrilled to share that Love Tropics ’24, an annual 48-hour Minecraft charity livestream that went live in November, raised over $27,000 in support of Women’s Earth Alliance! This unique event, filled with mini-games, creative builds, and spotlight interviews, focused on helping communities in the Earth’s tropics—and this year, it supported WEA’s women leaders in Uganda working to protect and restore the Mpanga River.

We are so grateful to the Love Tropics community for their incredible generosity and creativity. Together, we’re building more than just virtual worlds; we’re building pathways for women’s leadership, environmental resilience, and thriving communities.
