Absalom Jones Service on February 23
|
Celebrate with the St. B's choir
|
The St. B’s choir will be singing at the annual Absalom Jones Service at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, February 23 at 3:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to worship once again with Rev. Serena, who is now the Dean and Rector of the Cathedral.
This special service honors Absalom Jones, founder of the first Black Episcopal congregation in the United States in 1794 and the first African American ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church. He remains a powerful figure in our faith and is commemorated on the Episcopal calendar of saints. Read more about Absalom Jones here.

A Little Child Shall Lead |
Two ways to encourage our St. B's Children |
1. Sacred Communion
This Sunday, February 9, 10 of our 2nd and 3rd graders will be going through Sacred Communion — an experience intended to deepen their faith in Jesus and to broaden their imagination for the mystery of the Eucharist. The course ends with a mini-retreat and Family Eucharist celebration.
Would you be willing to pray for one of these children for the month of February and write a letter of encouragement to be opened during our retreat on 2/23? If so, please email Meredith for more details.
2. The 456 Retiree Luncheon
Are you 60 or older? The 4th, 5th, and 6th graders (456) invite you to Wallace Hall after the 11:00 service (12:00-1:30 p.m.) on Sunday, February 23 for a yummy winter meal prepared and served by the kids. We would enjoy sharing a meal and sparkling conversation with you! Please RSVP to Meredith by Wednesday, February 19 if you can join us.

God our Creator: We ask for your loving presence and for your peace to be with refugees in our local communities and around the world. Be with all who are in fear. Be with those whose lives and livelihoods are under threat, and whose religious freedoms are being compromised. Be with us as we strive to enact your will in our welcome and support of refugees. Be with those in positions of leadership, that their decisions may bend toward peace and not division, and that they might realize the power they hold to do justice. Give us all strength and courage. Equip and empower us to be witnesses to your love – as advocates and as servants, as ministers of welcome and bearers of hope, especially for those seeking refuge. In your Holy name we pray. Amen.
