Worship Change for Lent

The Worship Committee is excited to invite the congregation to join in a new Lenten discipline in worship starting this Sunday. During the season of Lent, we will observe a slight change in the order of worship to create a space and time for prayer, meditation, and reflection as worship begins.

On the worship hour (8:30 or 11:00 a.m.), the steeple bell will ring, a liturgist will welcome the congregation, share the announcements (including the signing of the friendship pads), and lead the Call to Worship.

Then, the congregation will be invited to sit and prepare for worship by listening to the Prelude.

Following the Prelude, the lay liturgist will invite the congregation to stand for the Prayer of the Day, and worship will then continue as in the past.

After the Benediction, the Pastor will invite the congregation to sit for the Postlude or move quietly to the parlor for fellowship.

The worship committee hopes this new discipline will provide congregants with a closer connection to God during our Lenten journey.

“Worship begins as the people gather—greeting one another, praying in silence, sharing announcements, and offering music to the glory of God.” -The Book of Common Worship

Congregational Meeting This Sunday
Come to the Annual Congregational Meeting and learn how genetic engineering and frigid temperatures have been a boon to Westminster.
Learn about miracles that have happened.
If you’re left-brained, your favorite numbers will bring you a sense of security; plus, you’ll see how it all adds up to Good News.
If you’re right-brained, the humidity in the Fellowship Hall will remind you of something out of a Faulkner novel.
A congregational meeting will convene on Sunday, February 22, 2026, beginning at 9:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. The purpose of the meeting is (1) to elect Elders for the Class of 2029; (2) to elect members of the Church Nominating Committee for the Class of 2029; (3) to elect Trustees for the Westminster Presbyterian Church Legacy Fund for the Class of 2029 ; (4) to review the church’s annual budget for 2026 and our pastors’ “Terms of Call”; (5) to hear a report on the State of the Church; and (6) to act on any other matters arising out of the above.

Dear Members and Friends of Westminster Congregation,
I am writing to give you a heads-up on my plans as your Pastor and Head of Staff in the years ahead.  You will be informed of the details of this transition plan at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, where we will discuss the steps ahead for both the congregation and me.
I am pleased to let you know that this transition plan has been thoughtfully reviewed and approved by both the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee. Their guidance ensures the process is sound and in Westminster's best interests.
A key aspect of the transition plan is that it allows for the search for my successor to begin while I am still serving as your pastor. This approach provides continuity for our congregation and ensures a smooth transition.
The rationale for this decision is that the search for a new pastor can take a long time. By beginning the process early, we give the Pastor Nominating Committee the freedom and time they need to conduct a thorough, thoughtful search, ensuring that Westminster continues to thrive, remain vital, and stay healthy throughout this period of transition.
The transition plan requires approval by the members of the congregation, which will take place on Sunday. We hope to have a slate for the PNC available for a congregational vote by May 2026.
Serving Westminster as your Pastor and Head of Staff remains a great privilege. Beth has enjoyed and thrived in your embrace of her ministry. Beth has been my job security in all the congregations we have served.  Transitions are painful because of the all the love.  I wouldn’t want it any other way. We will walk through this season of change together, trusting in God’s guidance for our future.
With gratitude and hope,
Donovan

As we come to the final weeks of our 2026 campaign, we want to extend heartfelt thanks to each of you for the generosity, prayerful support, and care you bring to this community. Your faithfulness truly matters. We are now in the final stretch and the finish line is in sight. Our total is $3,707,786 towards our $3.8 goal.  We have received pledges from 438 families.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to make your pledge or complete your commitment, we invite you to do so now, as we work together to bring this important season to a close. We are mindful of Jesus’ words to Peter, “Feed my sheep,” reminding us that our calling is always to care for one another and for those entrusted to us.
Your gifts enable us to continue walking alongside our many partner agencies and ministries as they serve neighbors in need with dignity, compassion, and hope.
Because of you, lives are strengthened, families are supported, and communities are uplifted. Through your generosity, we live out Christ’s call to love and serve in tangible ways.
Thank you for helping ensure that this vital work continues in the year ahead. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and your generous spirit.
