The energy system is the most complex and far-reaching machine that humans have ever built.  It is technically complex and works through a highly diverse patchwork of business models and regulatory regimes.  The system impacts every part of daily life and has been designed to ensure stability, reliability, and low cost for consumers.

Today’s fast-paced world is putting extreme pressure on energy system structure due to rapidly evolving technology, social changes, and changing consumers across all aspects of life. These pressures will require changes that are critical for long-term economic growth and competitiveness.

This seminar by TVA Vice President of Innovation and Research Joe Hoagland will delve into the complexities of today’s power system and explore the pressures and changes needed, as well as the impacts on the physical evolution of the grid and the business and regulatory models needed for success.

THIS SPRING
HBS 443/543: ENERGY TRANSITIONS

Our Nov. 7 forum speaker, Joe Hoagland, will be teaching an Energy Transitions course this upcoming spring, open to undergraduate and graduate students.
This course will analyze energy technology and policy solutions for a growing population, increasingly industrialized world, expanding the quality of life, limits of fossil fuel energy sources, and the increasing realization that renewable energy must be integrated into an energy system built around fossil fuels.
