November 2023 Teacher of the MonthIn cooperation with the Mayor's office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Okla. City recognizes an outstanding teacher in our community.
Tommie Alexander, affectionately known as “Ms. A,” is a third-grade teacher at Millwood Elementary Learning Academy. Well respected among her peers, Tommie uses her strong leadership skills to advocate for the members of her school community and supports her colleagues by modeling best practices, sharing resources, and serving as a teacher‑mentor. Tommie, a true champion of education, believes that all students can and will learn. As a master teacher, she maintains high expectations for herself and her students.
Tommie is poised, energetic, confident, creative, and thinks fast on her feet—expertly balancing the social, emotional, and academic needs of all her students; and her rapport with students and parents is nothing short of remarkable
Tommie Alexander was presented with a certificate of recognition as well as a $500 gift from the Rotary Club 29 Foundation AND a $500 gift from the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation in partnership with the American Fidelity Foundation.
Congratulations, Tommie!

World Community Service Reports
African Travel with Malaria Partners Internationalby Clayton Taylor
As a member of the Board of Malaria Partners International “MPI” and in behalf of our OKC Rotary Club 29 , in early October I traveled to the East African country of Uganda. I traveled with MPI Board Chairman Frank Boosman from Houston. This was Frank’s first visit to Africa and my first visit to Uganda. We were the first from MPI or Rotary to visit in person our Malaria Project in Uganda. Our local “Guide” in Uganda was Dorothy Echodu, CEO of Pilgrim Africa, which is a contractor organization that has been working on our project.
Our OKC Rotary Club 29 is serving as the U.S. Sponsor Club in partnership with the Rotary Club of Muyenga in Kampala, Uganda, which is serving as the in-country Rotary Club project sponsor. Working with MPI and our two Rotary Clubs, and with strong support from the Rotary International Foundation, the Gates Foundation and World Vision, we have implemented a $1.2 million project. The major goal has been to train and equip 1,100 village healthcare workers in the Katakwi District of Eastern Uganda to diagnose and treat more than 350,000 Ugandans for malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia. This area has an annual 30%-40% Malaria incidence among the population.
Our visit to Uganda started in the capitol city of Kampala where we were briefed by Pilgrim Africa on the impacts of Malaria in Uganda with specific focus on Easter Uganda. While in Kampala, we also had some very positive meetings with representatives of the Uganda Ministry of Health, as they will ultimately take over management of the prevention and treatment program when Rotary completes the training and implementation phase of the project and transitions out. | Wings of Rotary - Japan 2024 - Applications Due Dec. 1, 2023
Each summer, District 5750 sends a team of 10th to 12th graders to District 2520 located in the Miyagi and Iwate prefectures in Japan for approximately two weeks.
In taking part of WINGS of Rotary, students will learn a new way of living, a great deal about yourself, and maybe even a new language. You'll also be an ambassador, teaching people you meet about your country, culture, and ideas. You can help bring the world closer - and make some good friends in the process.
More than 8,000 young people each year have experiences like these through Rotary Youth Exchanges. It's the opportunity of a lifetime. Are you ready for it? For more information contact Keith Oehlert.
