2024 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Metropolitan Section Geo-Institute Chapter Scholarship |
The American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section – Geo-Institute Chapter (ASCE Met Section – Geotechnical Group) will award at least one scholarship to a graduate student studying geotechnical engineering at a university within the New York City Metropolitan Area. The application is here and the deadline is April 5, 2024.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) New Jersey Chapter Scholarships |
Every year the ASCE New Jersey Section awards scholarships to student members of ASCE who attend school or legally reside in the State of New Jersey. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2024. Additional information is available here. Please note that these scholarships require numerous steps and signatures, so students should plan ahead.

American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Scholarship |
For the 2024-2025 academic year, the AISC Education Foundation and partner steel industry organizations will award $188,000 in scholarships to full-time juniors, seniors, and master's students enrolled in civil engineering, architectural engineering, construction engineering, materials/metallurgical engineering, construction management, and architecture programs at U.S. universities. The application deadline is May 1, 2024. Additional information is here.

New Jersey Society of Women Environmental Professionals (NJSWEP) Scholarship |
The New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (NJSWEP) is pleased to announce the continuation of the NJSWEP Scholarship Program in 2024. The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to encourage women to pursue careers in an environmental field, to mentor undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in environmental and related subjects, and to provide students with opportunities to connect with NJSWEP members for future internships and careers in the environmental industry. Thornton Tomasetti Foundation Student Innovation Fellowship |
This Student Innovation Fellowship offers up to $5,000 in funding for specific projects that further innovation in the structural engineering and applied mechanics practice. Any projects that fulfill the goal of innovation will be considered.
General suggested topics include innovations that support: the integration of engineering and architecture; sustainability; and applying new approaches, such as robotics, nano technology, big data, material sciences or building damping solutions, to problems in the built environment.
If you are interested in being nominated, please send a resume, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, a one-page description of the project (including the goals of the innovation and project deliverables), a list of tasks required to achieve the project goals and any equipment required including its description and costs to Liz O'Connell (eoconne2@stevens.edu) by March 20, 2024. The department will then review all submissions and nominate one candidate. Additional information is available here.

COPRI and ASBPA Resume and Interview Workshop
|
Stevens COPRI and ASBPA student chapters will be hosting their annual resume/interview workshop event. Students will have the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed and engage in mock interviews with professionals from the coastal and ocean engineering disciplines.

Congratulations to Shengfeng Huang, civil engineering doctoral candidate, for presenting his research: "Beyond Tunnel Vision: Leveraging Machine Learning for Predictive Analysis of Tunnel Boring Machine Performance" in Tunnel Vision Series hosted by Underground Construction Association.

Congratulations to Hossam Aboalela, ocean engineering doctoral candidate, for his recently accepted journal paper for publication in Applied Energy journal with impact factor of 11.2. The paper is titled, "Effects of piezoelectric energy harvesting from a morphing flapping tail on its performance".
