- Pamela Ragin at Huguenot High School is doing a wonderful job as compliance coordinator. She goes above and beyond for both staff and students. Ms. Ragin every day at least once checks in on the students in the intensive support classroom to be sure that they are straight. She assists them in the morning with being sure that they get to the classroom safely and will even assist them with carrying their school supplies.
- Nicole Glover at Huguenot High School is doing an outstanding job as department chairperson. Ms. Glover makes herself available to the team, provides training as necessary, and fills in as needed for IEP/504 meetings – all on top of her own caseload.
- Lisa Harrison, school counselor at Huguenot High School, does a wonderful job attending and participating in all eligibility, IEP, and 504 meetings.
- Nurse Charlotte Martin at Huguenot High School does a wonderful job attending and participating in all 504 meetings.
- I would love to shout-out Ms. Harrington at Chimborazo Elementary School. She has worked so diligently this year at teaching the brilliant, young minds in her care. She brings such a tender spirit to the classroom. My child loves being in her classroom – it's so nice to send your child to school knowing they're being cared for academically and emotionally. She's top notch!! She's made my child's transition to kindergarten so easy.
- This is a shout-out for Westover Hills Elementary School caregivers and WHES 5th graders who volunteered their time at the book fair last week, as well as RPS supporters near and far who donated to a school-wide eWallet making it possible for everyone to leave the book fair with a book. WHES teachers deserve a shout-out as well for managing the many requests to visit the book fair and tolerating students' purchases of the ever-popular spy pen!
- Shout-out to the Dr. Rossi Volley, exceptional education director, for your leadership and support.
- Shout-out to Jennifer Romero for your support and dedication to the students of RPS!
- Bellevue shouts-out our school social worker, Teresa Horgan, for the amazing work she does with our students and families every day! Her consistency and kindness keep us all on track!
- I'd like to shout-out everyone at T.C. Boushall Middle School who helped with our college and career fair this week! First our amazing guidance department, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Atkins and Ms. Hayes! Also our AVID program, preparing our scholars for college! Our Communities in Schools site coordinators, Ms. Bono and Ms. Martin. And our AMP mentoring team led by Laura Leparati! I don't want to miss anyone, but we had representatives from J. Sargeant Reynolds, James Madison University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University and Virginia Union University! Whew!!! We also had career representatives from Eagle Construction, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Sabra Foods, Delta Airlines and more! It was a wonderful experience for our scholars and we are grateful for all of the hard work from the committee!
- I'd like to thank Corey Nelson for his help today. He is so patient and kind. I'm grateful for his extensive knowledge and time!
- I had the pleasure of volunteering as a cafeteria monitor at PHSSA today. The staff was incredibly kind to me and so respectful to the students. Everyone was so well behaved and the food looked delicious. Kudos to you all and thank you for your care of these children.
- I want to shout-out the principal of Broad Rock Elementary School. She is so supportive and helpful to all her staff and students. She is an amazing principal. Thank you, Mrs. Green!
- I want to give a big shout-out to the preschool social workers/behavior specialists, Kelly Gilliam, Latrice Mills, Kelly Dubose and Elisabeth Stanley. Thank you for all the work you do to help the preschool students and families every day! You are much appreciated.
- I want to shout-out the school social workers as we round out School Social Work Week!! As a school social worker, we juggle many hats – from providing resources to students and families to working with families and staff during school and community crises to building relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and community members/partners to balancing sociocultural histories for exceptional education to working with students on social-emotional learning skills to providing school-based clinical mental health services to students to advocating for the needs of our students and families to addressing barriers to student academic achievement and attendance...the list goes on. Thank you to my fellow school social workers for showing up and pouring your hearts into our students, families, staff, and colleagues!!
- I would like to give a shout-out to Ms. Menefee, the LBMS elective team department chair. Thank you so much for running the ex team!! You work so hard and communicate and collaborate with the team on a daily basis to ensure the department runs smoothly and it does not go unnoticed.
- Shout-out to the Urban League of Greater Richmond for donating $2,500 to Redd Elementary to support student attendance incentives.
- Shout-out to Lynn Pleveich for her time and graciousness on the phone in walking me through the open enrollment process. I am a big advocate for special education and appropriate autism services and I am a big advocate for other kinds of exceptional education, like G & T. We need to keep programs like this well funded in order to best serve all of our RPS students.
- I would like to shout-out the School Social Work Department's Social Committee for organizing awesome, self-care filled School Social Work Week events! The Social Committee provided daily opportunities this week for the School Social Workers to gather and enjoy various activities, such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, yoga/mindfulness, team building, and professional development. Thank you to the School Social Workers on the Social Committee - Briana Branch (committee lead), Shawmika Wright, Jaymes Whitehead-Urquhart, Chanda Hannah, Diane Brown, Kailyn Hampton-Studivant, Ashley White, Kathryn Bentley, Tori Griffin, Rebecca Wood, Shyanna Hicks, Towanda Edwards-Osborne, and Christina Bowman-Finney.
- I have to give an overdue shout-out to Shannon Brady at Amelia Street School. Ms. Brady wears many hats, including being an art teacher to our scholars and providing academic intervention. She's remarkable and one of the most talented individuals that I know. Over the weekend, Ms. Brady coordinated Amelia's art gallery at Huguenot as well. We are very fortunate to have Ms. Brady as a part of our team.
- Shout-out to our CIS Coordinator, Ms. Hite, and our art teacher, Dr. Cooper-Cravey, for organizing a Pi Day celebration for teachers here at George Washington Carver Elementary!
