Kurt Braddock published an article with colleagues from the United Kingdom in the journal Critical Studies on Terrorism. In this article, Kurt and his co-authors explored how popular advertisements could be useful for undermining a process whereby combatting extremists reinforce each other's radicalization processes.
In an interview with Scripps News, Kurt discussed the importance of fact verification among professional news organizations, lest they risk spreading misinformation in key areas of conflict, including the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In addition, Kurt’s research was accepted for presentation at the International Studies Association Conference in April. Kurt's paper focuses on the use of big data and machine learning methodologies to identify communicative, psychological, criminological, political, and structural factors that drive an actor's movement toward violent extremism or nonviolent political action.

SOC alum Derek McGinty (I don't know what year he graduated) spoke to Terry Bryant's Advanced Broadcast Production class. McGinty talked to the students about the importance of quality storytelling, the diligent pursuit of the facts, and taking advantage of industry contacts to advance their careers. McGinty retired as anchor and reporter from WUSA-TV in Washington D.C. He also worked as an anchor at ABC World News Now and as a reporter for HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.
