Utah Artist Fellowship Applications Open Jan. 26

The Utah Artist Fellowships are $5,000 awards that recognize the careers of Utah artists demonstrating exceptional creativity in their fields. Fellows are chosen by out-of-state, nationally renowned arts professionals. Selections are based on evaluation of application narratives as well as work samples from the past five years. Fellowships will be awarded in each of these categories:
Literary Arts – Five fellowships
Performing Arts (Music 2026) – Five fellowships
Visual Arts & Design Arts – Eight fellowships
Application closes March 6 at 5 p.m.

Do you know an awesome art, dance, music, theatre, or film/media arts teacher? Nominate them for the Sorenson Legacy Awards for Excellence in Arts Education to recognize their contributions! There are also categories for arts administrators, elementary classroom teachers who integrate the arts, and art programs. Individual winners get $2,500 and $500 for their LEA’s arts program. The winning arts program gets a $5,000 cash award. Submit your nomination by Jan. 16.

| Enter Poetry Ourselves by Jan. 30
|
The entry deadline is Jan. 30 for Poetry Ourselves, our statewide youth poetry competition. Utah 9th- through 12th-grade students may submit either one or two of their own original poems of any format. Submitted poems must be 25 lines or fewer. Works may be submitted in English or Spanish. Winners will receive a cash award and be invited to present their works on the evening of state finals for Poetry Out Loud on March 4.

The Utah Arts Education Association is accepting proposals from educators and teaching artists to share their knowledge, expertise, and creativity at their 2026 Spring Conference on Feb. 5 - 7 at Timpanogos High School. This year’s theme, “Balancing the A.R.T.S (Artist. Researcher. Teacher. Student.),” serves as broad inspiration and is open to individual interpretation. Click below to submit your proposal.

Celebrate the West
Art Competition
|
Applications are now open for "Celebrate the West," the regional high school art competition of the Western Governors’ Foundation. Utah 9th- through 12th-grade students may submit an original, two-dimensional piece of artwork inspired by their state or otherwise evocative of the American West. Students may also nominate their teacher for the Outstanding High School Art Educator award. Cash prizes and other opportunities are available. Learn more at the link below.

| Junior Duck Stamp
Art Contest
|
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hosts the annual Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest to spark interest in habitat conservation through science, art, math, and technology. Submissions will be considered for use as the next Junior Duck Stamp design. The contest is open to all K-12 students; submit artwork by Mar. 1. The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in Brigham City receives entries and has staff and resources available to help you navigate this contest. Free Folk Arts Workshops Available
|
Our Living Folk Arts Education workshop series is accepting applications. This free program allows folk artists from the UA&M Teaching Artists roster to offer hands-on workshops to schools and community groups around the state. Groups can select from a wide range of traditional arts workshops taught by Utah folk artists. You can hold a workshop at the Chase Home Museum in Salt Lake City or arrange to have the artist come to your location.

Our friends at Utah Humanities have opened submissions for the Utah Book Awards. Submissions are open until Jan. 31, 2026. Books published between Jan. 1, 2023 and Jan. 1, 2026 are eligible. Check out this year's new Romance category!

Flynn Breakthrough Project
|
The Flynn is seeking artists and organizations across the U.S. to create bold new performances for public spaces through the Flynn Breakthrough project, a major new commissioning and incubator initiative. Selected projects can receive $5,000-$25,000 plus producing support, time, space, mentorship, and a platform to premiere work in streets, parks, and other non-traditional venues in Vermont — all the places where people live, play, and gather. Apply by Jan. 23.

| Shakespeare in American Communities
|
Applications are open for the 2026-27 Shakespeare in American Communities, offering support to nonprofit theaters bringing Shakespeare-inspired performances and educational activities to their communities. Theaters can bring Shakespeare’s works to life with support from the Schools and Juvenile Justice Programs, or offer hands-on opportunities for early-career theater professionals with support from the Apprenticeships Program. An Intent to Apply is due Jan. 29.

NEA Funding for U.S. Military Bands
|
New funding from the National Endowment for the Arts focuses on celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday with music from U.S. military bands. This grant program recognizes the role military bands have played throughout American history, celebrating the nation’s spirit through a wide range of musical styles and genres. Eligible organizations may apply for a grant ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 (no cost share required) for arts projects that feature performances and/or educational programming with a U.S. military band to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Apply by Feb. 23.

| Grant Support for International Performances
|
USArtists International supports U.S. artists with eligible performance engagements abroad, providing grants of up to $11,000 that can help cover expenses such as flights, lodging, per diems, and more. The program funds individuals and ensembles that meet criteria and are based anywhere in the U.S., across all performing arts practices and disciplines. Apply by Feb. 25.

Levitt Foundation Offers Grants for Festivals
|
The Levitt Foundation has an open call for grants of up to $5,000 to U.S.-based nonprofits presenting free outdoor music festivals in 2026. Festivals must take place outdoors in a public space, be free to attend, and feature programming with music and performance by professional musicians who are compensated. Applications are due by Jan. 30.
