You should know: The final day to log your steps is Monday, Nov. 3.

UTA earns elite status for cybersecurity research

UTA’s Computer Science and Engineering Department has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) by the National Security Agency.

 

Why it matters: The NCAE-C program, managed by the NSA in partnership with other agencies, works to establish rigorous standards for cybersecurity education. It promotes competency development, community outreach, professional training and the integration of cybersecurity principles across academic disciplines.

UTA honored with 2025 Star Award for student success

UTA is one of six institutions selected for the 2025 Star Awards by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

 

Why it matters: This year’s awards spotlight institutions demonstrating transformative work across three areas: student success, workforce education and career development and transitions.

 

Going deeper: UTA’s Mavs RISE initiative is central to the Star Award recognition. It supports first-year students who are conditionally admitted or who have not yet completed the Texas Success Initiative. The program provides guidance helping students stay on track for academic advancement and succeed after graduation.

Step over to the Homecoming Step Show

UTA's Divine Nine (D9) chapters are bringing the heat with the theme "Ease on Down the Culture" to the National Pan-Hellenic Council Homecoming Step Show.

 

Why it matters: The step show is a cultural tradition that showcases creativity through movement, while emphasizing deep-rooted values that define Black Greek-letter organizations.

 

Going deeper: UTA's D9 chapters will take you on a nostalgic journey with their best moves. They will deliver dynamic routines inspired by music, fashion, and historical movements.

 

Important info: Doors will open at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14, in Texas Hall. Tickets are on sale now.

 

Employee Recognition

Celebrating groundbreaking practitioners

UTA’s Assessment Recognition Awards acknowledge continuous improvement in academic programs, student support, and administrative support services.

 

Why it matters: The award is given to one faculty member and one staff member annually who served as a leader and advocate for assessment of student learning outcomes on campus.

 

Going deeper: Correy Retzloff, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Management, won the faculty award for using project management theory in service learning. Michael Eaddy, a staff psychologist in Counseling and Psychological Services, won the staff award for reducing student wait times.

 

Runners-up include Morgan Hutto, an employee engagement specialist in the Division of Student Success, and Ivy Hauser, an assistant professor in the Department of Linguistics and Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages.
