Pre-med students get hands-on clinical training

During a recent workshop, 10 College of Science pre-medical students participated in experiential activities and interacted with “patients” who were portrayed by students from the UTA Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. Each theater student acted as a patient with specific symptoms, which the pre-med students attempted to diagnose.

Undergraduate CONHI students spent 10 days on a study abroad trip in Germany. They spoke with various leaders from health organizations and toured sites like the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, the Nuremberg Palace of Justice Courthouse, the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, and the 1936 Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

A project to 3D-print homes from cork and concrete
|
UTA architecture Professor Shadi Nazarian is a member of an interdisciplinary team exploring the viability of 3D-printing homes in rural Alaska to provide affordable, sustainable, and resilient housing. Her eventual goal is to develop seamless transitional material that can print at a large scale, making housing more energy efficient, affordable, and accessible in remote areas.

| Building trust in clinical research
|
Kyrah Brown, assistant professor of kinesiology, led a team of UTA researchers in a study on participation levels in clinical research involving biospecimen donation, specifically among Black women. Dr. Brown and her team asked nearly 500 Black women ages 18-49 to complete an online survey about their attitude toward giving blood for clinical health research. They found that less than half, 44%, would be willing to take part. Read more about the results of the survey.

Survey for students with foster care experience

School of Social Work researchers are conducting a study on UTA students between the ages of 18 and 30 with foster care experience. This study aims to understand barriers and facilitators in young adults with foster care experience pursuing and finishing their college education. If you have lived or are currently living in foster care, complete an online survey to enter into a drawing for a chance to win a $30 Target gift card.
