We're Talking Stories

Aloha PBS Hawaiʻi Supporters,

We want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your support of PBS Hawaiʻi. Because of you, we can continue doing the good work that we do.

Your support is even more critical in light of the ongoing effort to eliminate federal funding for public media and the growing polarization within Congress.

At PBS Hawaiʻi, all decisions are made here at home with our local community in mind. Our focus will always be on creating and delivering thoughtful and balanced content that brings people together, rather than contributing to any divide. We’re dedicated to lifting voices and making sure everyone feels heard, valued and included. PBS Hawaiʻi is, and will always be a welcoming space for all of Hawaiʻi.

Public media funding plays an important role in keeping PBS Hawaiʻi a strong and accessible resource for our community. Any cut will affect how we do business but it won’t change our core mission and the values that define who we are. Our diversity speaks for itself, in every program, every story and every moment we share with you.

We hope you’ll continue standing with us as we carry out our important role as Hawaiʻi’s public multi-media station. Thank you for your generosity, loyalty and trust. Together, we will continue making a difference. Because of you, we can.

With respect,

Ron Mizutani and
the PBS Hawaiʻi team

In Hawaiian Hands: The Story of Reggae in Hawaiʻi

In keeping with PBS Hawaiʻi’s tradition of sharing community stories, In Hawaiian Hands: The Story of Reggae in Hawaiʻi highlights a pivotal yet untold chapter in local music history. Born in Jamaica in the late 1960s, reggae became a voice for resistance and pride, and when it reached Hawaiʻi, it resonated deeply with islanders, whose own struggles with identity and freedom mirrored those themes.

Join us for a virtual screening of Part I of this three-part series on Tuesday, March 18.
