Brigid Maher screened Experimental Curator: The Sally Dixon Story to the Colorado College community (Colorado Springs) last week. Additionally, she guest lectured and worked with Colorado College students on best approaches to making research-based documentaries.
Patricia Aufderheide participated in a three-day, three-panel mini-conference at Visible Evidence, in Udine, Italy, Sep. 6-8. Visible Evidence is a global biannual conference of documentary film scholars. the largest and oldest of documentary studies conferences worldwide. The mini-conference concerns the ethics of documentary filmmaking; Aufderheide presented a paper on the evolution of new norms in the U.S. around non-extractive relationships between filmmakers and their participants.
Last week, Filippo Trevisan participated in the American Political Science Association’s Annual Conference in Los Angeles, CA in various roles. Filippo presented a paper titled Autonomous Technology, Datafied Storytelling and the Future of Political Campaigns (with co-authors Ariadne Vromen and Michael Vaughan). In addition, he also chaired a panel and was the discussant for a poster session, and presided over the Information Technology & Politics Section’s Business Meeting and Award Ceremony as the outgoing section’s chair.

Aram Sinnreich gave a talk about his new book A Second Chance for Yesterday at the Mary Graydon Center, along with his coauthor Rachel Hope Cleves. AU Literature Professor David Keplinger led the Q&A portion of the event.

Claudia Myers and Laura Waters Hinson's new documentary short, The Test, has been invited by the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) to have its West Coast premiere October 19-29. Now in its 26th year, the festival's theme, SOLUTIONS, continues the event's "devotion to human rights with an emphasis on strategies and approaches that offer solutions to our burning problems." The festival will take place at venues across Stanford University, San Francisco and Palo Alto. The Test tells the story of a Ghanaian maintenance technician at a Virginia retirement community who dreams of becoming an American citizen to provide a better life for his family. With their future at stake, he enlists the help of two elderly residents to prepare for the biggest test of his life: the US Citizenship exam.
Laura Waters Hinson's feature documentary, Project Home, will be widely released on digital platforms September 26th by 1091 Pictures, a major independent film distributor that represents award-winning docs such as Cartel Land and Life, Animated. Last week, the film's trailer premiered on Screen Rant alongside an article by Owen Danoff titled, "Project Home Trailer Shows How 3D Printing Can Fix the Housing Crisis."
