Dear alumni/ae and friends,
During any given semester at the Vanderbilt Divinity School, there are academic researchers who visit our community, access resources from our library, and further their scholarship in residence with our community.
One of those researchers during this current academic year is Professor Jin Kwan Kwon, one of the foremost authorities on Korean Minjung Theology today. Hosted by the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice at Vanderbilt Divinity School, Professor Kwon is at work on a book about this particular branch of liberation theology.
A second researcher in residence with us this year is Dr. Eileen Campbell-Reed. She is a Research Associate Professor, continuing her writing and data collection for the project, “The State of Women and LGBTQ Clergy in the U.S.,” funded by the Louisville Institute. A proud VDS alumna, Dr. Campell-Reed is also at work on two other manuscripts.
The breadth and depth of research projects and academic scholarship pursued by our faculty, students, and visiting scholars in any given year is remarkable. The book poster covers of manuscripts produced by our faculty, just within the last five years, line the hallways of our building. And this diverse range of projects is supported by the Divinity Library and extraordinary staff of Divinity librarians.
The work of theological inquiry and the preparation of future scholars and teachers is a part of our mission. It is a blessing to witness on a daily basis, the intersections of faith, scholarship, and formation. It also means that there is never a dull moment at VDS! We look forward to seeing you at the next lecture, workshop, training, class, or public seminar.
Best,
Yolanda Pierce, Ph.D.
