LETTER TO CONGRESS IN SUPPORT OF AI FUNDING
Duke University has joined a plethora of other universities, companies and organizations in a letter to Congressional Appropriations Committee leaders in support of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) funding request in regard to its efforts of safeguarding, regulating, and promoting AI. In the letter, it states, that the most crucial part will be to fully fund NIST's request of $47.7 million which will, "help build a foundation for responsible development and deployment of AI systems for years to come."
