Civic Building Named Drakeford Library Complex by Orange County and Town of Carrboro |

The new public building under construction at 203 S. Greensboro St., Carrboro, will be named the Drakeford Library Complex in honor of former Carrboro Mayor Robert Drakeford.
The Orange County Board of County Commissioners voted in favor of the new name on Thursday, November 7 while the Carrboro Town Council approved the new building name on Tuesday, October 15.

On Friday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 6 pm the Walmart in Hillsborough at 501 Hampton Pointe B is hosting a Toy Collection Event for the Orange County Dept. of Social Services Toy Chest, which is an annual holiday toy program for low-income Orange County children.

Memorial Dedication to Honor Lynette and John “Blackfeather” Jeffries at River Park on November 24

A special nameplate and commemorative bench will be unveiled in honor of Lynette Coles Jeffries and John “Blackfeather” Jeffries on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at River Park in Hillsborough. This dedication, located across from the Occaneechi Replica Village, will celebrate the lives and legacy of two individuals whose impact on the community continues to be deeply felt. A ceremony, featuring members of the Jeffries family, the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation (OBSN), and the Orange County community, will commence at 2 p.m.

The Orange County Department of Social Services is hosting the Toy Chest, which is an annual holiday toy program that supplies low-income Orange County children with new toys. In 2023, Toy Chest provided holiday cheer for 1,205 families and 2,019 children ages 0-12 with presents, books, clothing and food. Consider donating money, toys or your time to make this year's event a success.
