April is National County Government Month |
National County Government Month (NCGM), held each April, is an annual celebration of county governments. Orange County kicked off its NCGM celebration on April 1 with a reception honoring volunteers who serve on the county’s boards and commissions. Following the reception, during the Board of Commissioners meeting, a proclamation was read recognizing April as County Government Month in Orange County.

The Board of Commissioners also recognized the 25th anniversary of the Orange County Community Resource Court, which was started by the District Court Judge’s Office and court and behavioral health stakeholders to support individuals in the criminal justice system with mental health needs. This innovative specialty court was the first of its kind in North Carolina. Over the last 25 years, there have been more than 1,000 individuals that have participated in the Court. April 29 has been designated as Community Resource Court Day in Orange County.
Throughout April we will showcase many of the important services that Orange County provides to residents, making our community a special place to live, work, play and raise a family.
