Once a high school dropout, grad student receives CSU's top honor
Nothing life threw at Shamona Thompson Ross could stop her from achieving her goals. Not dropping out of high school, becoming a mother at age 18, an abusive relationship, or a breast cancer diagnosis that came just as she was enrolling at Sacramento State.
Thompson Ross, who earned her bachelor's degree from Sac State and is now working toward her master's in Social Work, has been honored with the CSU Trustees Award for Outstanding Achievement, the CSU system's top student honor.
“I want to be a role model, not just for my kids but for my nieces and nephews," Thompson Ross said. "And I want to serve and give back to my community. I want to empower others, and let them know that they can achieve whatever they want to achieve.”
