Congratulations to the debate team on a fourth-place finish at the State Debate Championships, marking the 20th consecutive year of top-five finishes for DCHS! Cesar Duran was runner-up in Congressional Debate, Matthew Pierson and Lily Carfrae received Medals of Excellence in Congressional Debate, Haley South and Maddy Beauchamp reached the quarterfinals of Policy Debate, and the teams of Leo Klemm & Catherine Sullivan, Nora Romain & Hannah Kirst, and Sam Raymond & Toby Nielsen reached the quarterfinals of Public Forum Debate. 
The DCHS Performing Arts Department presented the annual Madrigal Dinner on Friday and Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Thanks to these talented student musicians and vocalists for  sharing their gifts with our community and providing two evenings of wonderful entertainment!

Class of 2026 Registration Timeline
Junior Parents - Registration for the 2025-26 school year began Jan. 7 for the Class of 2026. Changes to students’ online course requests can be made before 11:59 pm on Sunday, Jan. 12. Juniors will receive a yellow course requests printout at school on Tuesday, Jan. 14. This form must be signed and returned to Student Services by Friday, Jan. 17. Please contact your student’s counselor if you have questions.

People to People Service Project
Help People to People pack the pantry! Bring in food items until the end of January to earn up to 4 service hours (5 items = 1 service hour; 4 hours max). Donations MUST be dropped off at room 900 and students MUST sign in on the donation sheet to earn hours. Requested items: canned soup, boxed meals, breakfast items, pasta and sauce, canned vegetables, peanut butter, bread and non-refrigerated fresh fruit. Please email Mrs. Selinger with questions. 
Seal of Biliteracy
The Iowa Seal of Biliteracy for 2025 will again be offered to our world language students. Students that speak a language other than English at home are also eligible. Students must earn an intermediate proficiency level on 4 different tests (reading, writing, listening & speaking). This is an opportunity to show they are proficient in more than one language and earn this designation on their transcript. This will be our sixth year offering this and a few hundred DCHS students have already earned this recognition. Please read this letter for more information and/or contact Ms. Kasey Tickel with questions. 
A Night to Shine
DCHS is seeking adult and student volunteers for a Night to Shine, an event centered on God's love, honoring and valuing people with special needs. It's sponsored by the Tim Tebow foundation and hosted by Sacred Heart on Friday, Feb. 7th from 5-9 pm in the Parish Center. 
Volunteers will be asked to do many different things ranging from being a buddy for one of the participants to setting up and tearing down for the event. Please click here to sign up.

Kue’d Smokehouse (245 Hickman Road) in Waukee is partnering with Post Prom for a fundraising event on Thursday, Jan. 30th from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm. Take the night off from cooking and make sure to mention DCHS so we get credit for your participation.

Senior Baby Ads
Senior parents - submit a baby photo of your child along with a message for the yearbook! The cost is $30. Pay online here. Submit your photo and message of 60 words or less via email to yearbook@dowlingcatholic.org before March 10. This is optional for senior families. 
Bash on Buffalo
Save the date for Dowling Catholic’s biggest celebration of the year, the Bash on Buffalo, on April 12! NEW this year, proceeds support the STEM Endowment to enhance programming for all students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Our committee is working diligently on auction packages and is seeking the following donations from each class:

Nonpublic Transportation Reimbursement
Families who live more than three miles one-way from DCHS may be eligible for a nonpublic transportation reimbursement. Forms must be submitted each semester (by Dec. 1 & May 1). Eligible families will receive one check following the end of the school year. Instructions are available here.

Freshman Movie Night 
The freshman government team is hard at work finalizing plans for the upcoming Freshman Movie Night! The event will be held at DCHS on Jan. 17 from 5-7 pm and will include snacks, video games, board games, and fun! We hope to see your freshman there!

Dowling Catholic College Fair
Save the date for the DCHS College Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Students in grades 10-11 will attend in a rotation throughout the lunch hour. Colleges from across the Midwest region will be in attendance. Parents are welcome to attend!
ACT Test Prep Seminar 
A ZAPS ACT Test Prep seminar will be offered at DCHS on March 3 & 4, 2025, from 3:15-5:45 pm or 6:00 -8:00 pm. The cost is $100. Register at www.doorwaytocollege.org.
ICAN FAFSA Sessions
ICAN advisors will walk through how to complete the FAFSA form step-by-step and answer questions along the way. From student dependency status to which parent is reported on the FAFSA, all the tricky questions about income and assets will be covered as well as the next steps once the FAFSA form is submitted. Drake Physics Prize
Sophomores, juniors or seniors are invited to compete for the Drake Physics Prize. A variety of awards are available, however, the first-place award is an unrestricted four-year, full-tuition scholarship to Drake University! Learn more here.

Summer 2025 registration for Badger Precollege opens on Jan. 13. Northwestern has launched an exciting new program for motivated high school students. The online courses feature interactive tools and a flexible structure that allows students to take multiple courses to discover a variety of academic areas of interest. Join us for an Evening of Style! This creative “Ladies Night Out” event takes place at St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines. Enjoy an evening of fun with dinner, drinks, uniquely themed tables, and a style show featuring fashions created by DCHS students. Proceeds raised benefit the Bash on Buffalo Auction and will support the STEM Endowment.
