UTA grad rewrites his story
|
Stephen Silva-Brave is one of the nearly 4,500 students at UTA scheduled to graduate Friday, Dec. 15, at Globe Life Field. For Silva-Brave, his bachelor’s diploma in social work represents a triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds. The fall 2023 graduate is drawing from his experience with overcoming a life-threatening diagnosis to inspire others going through their own challenges. Department of Graduate Nursing announces chair
|
Ann Eckhardt has been appointed as the chair of the Department of Graduate Nursing with the rank of associate professor of nursing. Dr. Eckhardt joined the College of Nursing and Health Innovation in 2021 as the associate chair of clinical education with the rank of NTT clinical associate professor and has served as the interim chair of the Department of Graduate Nursing since January 2023.

Police training in UTA parking lot Friday
|
The Arlington Police Department’s training academy will be conducting practice safety traffic stops in UTA Parking Lot 50 on Friday, Dec. 15, 12-9 p.m. Selected parts of the parking lot will be closed off starting this afternoon, Thursday, Dec. 14. Trainees will use laser training pistols called shot indicating resetting trigger (SIRT) pistols for their traffic stop training. They will not be utilizing any additional use of force other than their SIRT pistols and handcuffs.

Campus-wide steam outage scheduled for Sunday
|
The Office of Facilities Management has planned a campus-wide steam outage to repair a leaking component in the steam distribution system. This outage is set for Sunday, Dec.17, from 3 a.m. to approximately 8 p.m. During the designated time, the buildings served by the thermal energy plant will be without hot water and steam. Building temperatures are expected to be normal for business and academic activities on Monday, Dec. 18. A commencement that couldn't wait
|
UTA recently held a special early commencement for Kerry Carr so that his wife, who is in hospice care for ovarian cancer, could see him graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history. At a ceremony in Grand Prairie before friends, family, UTA representatives, and, most importantly his wife, Basilia, Carr received his diploma, capping a years-long educational journey.

Life Sciences Building remodeling project begins Monday
|
Construction on the Life Sciences Building will start Monday, Dec. 18, and pedestrians navigating around the building will begin seeing detours caused by the multi-year refurbishing and expansion project. Add extra time to navigate the area or seek an alternative route around it. Building access will remain on the northeast and west sides of the building.
Nedderman Drive will close to non-construction vehicles starting mid-December and remain closed permanently. Deliveries to the Library and the buildings of Science and Engineering Innovation and Research, Life Sciences, and the School of Social Work/CONHI Smart Hospital will be impacted. Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, UTA Boulevard will be closed from Cooper Street to Davis Drive for the final phase of the City of Arlington’s water line project. This closure will last through Friday, Dec. 22. There will be a pathway into Timber Brook Apartments, the YWCA Day Care, and West Hall. The City of Arlington is providing the traffic plan, traffic control barricades, and signage for the project.
