About UW–Madison Extension Human Development & Relationships Institute (HDRI)

The Extension Institute of Human Development & Relationships provides the tools Wisconsinites need to thrive as well-rounded, capable individuals and families. We support families in caring for each other in ways that promote growth and understanding. Our programs promote aging-friendly communities, coach effective parents and help families put technology, mindfulness, and financial awareness to use.

Below are upcoming local & statewide events & workshops provided by the UW Extension Family & Finance program.

Registration is highly encouraged for all events & workshops. All of these events can be found on our local and/or statewide Extension website for families or finance.

Money Matters LIVE: Tax-Filing Basics

Feb 3, 2026 | 10am OR 6:30pm | Virtual

Learn the steps to file your taxes correctly and on time. This class makes tax filing easy to understand and can help you apply tax credits and deductions so you can put more money back in your pocket. 

Triple P: Fear-Less - Parents & Caregivers With Children Ages 6-14 Years Old

Feb 3 - Mar 10, 2026 (Weekly Tuesdays) | 9am OR 6pm | Virtual

This program aims to support and help parents develop a toolbox of strategies when responding to their child’s low to moderate anxiety.

 

Raising Wisconsin’s Children Conference 2026

Feb 4, 2026 | 9am - 4:30pm | Virtual

This conference is a free, online event for parents, caregivers, teachers, and anyone who works with children. Come learn from experts and gain practical, research-based tips and strategies to help children thrive when life gets tough. 

Resilient Co-Parenting: Successful Stepfamilies

Feb 5, 2026 | 7-8pm | Virtual

This month’s class focuses on successful stepfamilies. Blended families have unique parenting challenges. Discover ways to ease the transition for your children and address these challenges effectively.

 

Focus on Fathers: Fathers Teach Values

Feb 10, 2026 1-2pm | Virtual

Fathers also play an important role in raising children! Join us to explore how to teach children values such as honesty, kindness, and other strong values through everyday conversations!

How to Help Your Child Who Feels Down: A Training for Parents

Feb 11 & 18, 2026 | 12pm OR 7pm | Virtual

We all feel down and blue from time to time and managing the emotions can feel like a sticky place for children. This two-part class will teach participants the knowledge and skills (including three strategies based in research) to help their child improve their mood.

*Note: if your child struggles with more serious depression, please seek further professional support.

The Family Engagement and Relationships (FER) program at UW–Madison Extension Dane County support strong family engagement and other interpersonal relationships that significantly contribute to the health and well-being of individuals, communities, and economics. Extension provides well-researched, quality information and programs to further support parenting and family relationships. The Financial Education Program at UW–Madison Extension of Dane County helps families and individuals to achieve financial well-being, reach for financial goals, planning for life’s unexpected events, and build a secure financial future.

The biggest impact on children’s ability to read comes from their families. How kids read affects their success in school and life. Give the gift of reading to your child! Check out UW–Madison Extension website  for more tips and strategies to support your child’s reading development.

Seeking Participants for Fatherhood Research

 

UW–Madison Extension is seeking for fathers, with at least one child that does not live with them full-time, to participate in a new peer-support program. Eligible participants will attend 5 sessions via Zoom and can receive up to $220 in compensation.

Tax-Filing Support for Low-Income, Older Adults & Those With Limited English

 

The Richard Dilley Tax Center (VITA), located on 2238 S. Park Street, is back and will start on January 30! Appointments are required and registration is now open! More information about the site or for tax support can be found on Dane County Extension website!
