Dear Ziegler Community,
Please join us in warmly welcoming Rabbi Nicholas Losorelli, who is joining American Jewish University as the new Jeffrey & Allyn Levine Assistant Dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies.
In this role, Rabbi Losorelli will be primarily responsible for recruiting new rabbinical students and leading outreach efforts for the Ziegler School, as well as overseeing student life for all Ziegler students—including coordinating minyanim and fostering meaningful community gatherings that enrich the spiritual and communal life of our school.
Rabbi Losorelli brings a rich and diverse background to this position. Born and raised in Santa Clarita, CA, he now lives in Los Angeles with his husband, Eli Shavalian. Rabbi Losorelli earned his B.A. in Music from UC Berkeley, where he trained as a singer specializing in Opera and Early Music. He received his M.A. in Rabbinic Studies and Rabbinical Ordination from the Ziegler School this past spring. An AJU alum in more ways than one, Rabbi Losorelli is also a graduate of the Miller Introduction to Judaism Program.
Before pursuing the rabbinate, Rabbi Losorelli worked in television production and has remained deeply engaged in Jewish communal life. He is an alumnus of the AIPAC Leffell Fellowship, served as MERCAZ Campaign Captain for Ziegler in the recent WZO elections, and has lived and volunteered in Israel. He is also a frequent contributor to the Jewish Journal’s “Table for Five,” where his voice is a thoughtful and insightful presence.

We look forward to the passion and leadership Rabbi Losorelli will bring to the Ziegler
community.
As we look toward the future of the Jewish people, we know that the next generation of rabbinic leadership begins with you. We rely on our community to help identify individuals who may be called to the rabbinate. If you know someone who would make a great rabbi, or if you're curious to learn more about the Ziegler School, please reach out to Rabbi Losorelli.
