State of the University Address

Attend President Cowley’s State of the University Address Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. in Texas Hall. Together, we will celebrate a year of accomplishments and prepare for the academic year ahead. Those who can’t join in person can watch the event live online.

Increased federally funded research expenditures

In 2023, federally sponsored research at UTA accounted for $77 million in expenditures, with about $40.7 million spent on research-related goods and services in Texas. That more than doubles the total for 2022, when federally sponsored research at UTA contributed $38 million to the economy.

Benefits reminder

New benefits, benefits plan designs, and benefits premium changes take effect on Sunday, Sept. 1. If you have questions about any changes, visit the benefits annual enrollment website.

Dependent day care FSA

Saturday, Aug. 31, is the last day to incur UT Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) qualifying expenses for active employees for the 2024-25 plan year. Saturday, Nov. 30, is the UT Flex Health Care and Dependent Day Care claim filing deadline for the 2024-25 plan year.

UTA Libraries to extend hours during finals week

UTA Libraries will offer extended hours Dec. 2-11 to accommodate students during finals week. Library hours during that period are listed below.

 

  • Dec. 2, 7 a.m.-4 a.m.
  • Dec. 3, 7 a.m. begins 24-hour service
  • Dec. 4-10, open 24 hours
  • Dec. 11, end 24-hour service at 11 p.m. 

 

UTA Libraries is analyzing research consultation and instruction sessions from previous fall semesters to plan enhanced support for students. Details about additional research support are coming soon.

From student to mayor

At just 30 years old, UTA graduate Kameron Raburn ('17 BS, Civil Engineering) was elected mayor of Ennis, Texas, a city of about 24,000 people. Raburn shared that his time at UTA, where he spent hours studying in the Science and Engineering Library at Nedderman Hall, making friends, and honing his leadership skills, gave him the tools to make critical decisions in his role at city hall.

UTA Volunteers are excited to give back to the local community and invite faculty, students, and staff to serve together in the local Arlington area. Registration closes tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 23.

This will be an exciting opportunity to make introductions, reconnect, and set the stage for the upcoming academic year.

GTA/GRA benefits session

The Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement is hosting a one-hour orientation to provide graduate teaching assistants and graduate research assistants an overview of UTA's employee benefits. Register to attend the session in-person at the Lone Star Auditorium in the Mavericks Activity Center on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 p.m. or virtually Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.
