Please join me in congratulating Angela Hickson, MPH, CIP, on her appointment as Director of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Office, effective October 26, 2026.
Angela brings extensive experience in human research protections, regulatory compliance, and IRB operations, along with a longstanding commitment to Augusta University's research mission. Since July 1, 2026, Angela has served as Interim Director of the IRB Office, providing leadership and oversight of IRB operations and supporting the university's Human Research Protection Program.
Throughout her time at Augusta University, Angela has played an important role in strengthening IRB operations, supporting regulatory compliance, supervising staff, and improving policies, procedures, and training for our research community.
Angela previously served as IRB Operations Manager and IRB Training Coordinator at Augusta University. Her experience also includes serving as an IRB Technical Program Manager with the Air Force Research Laboratory, where she supported complex human subjects research and regulatory oversight. She is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and holds a Master of Public Health from Augusta University.
As Director, Angela will continue to provide leadership for the IRB Office, working closely with investigators, research teams, and university leadership to support the ethical conduct of human subjects research while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our IRB processes.
Angela's experience, institutional knowledge, and dedication to our research community make her well-suited for this role. We are fortunate to have her leadership as we continue to strengthen research support services at Augusta University.
