NATIONAL SCIENCE BOARD DISMISSED

President Donald Trump’s administration has removed the entire National Science Board, terminating more than 20 members who advise and oversee the National Science Foundation (NSF). Board members were notified on Friday that their appointments were ended effective immediately, according to statements from former members. Established in 1950, the National Science Board plays a central role in guiding NSF policy and advising Congress and the president on science and engineering matters.

ADMISSIONS SURVEY INJUNCTION EXPANDED

As part of the ongoing legal dispute over the Department of Education’s new Admissions and Consumer Transparency Supplement (ACTS) survey, a federal judge has expanded an existing injunction blocking the Education Department from enforcing its new admissions data collection requirements, extending relief to more than 170 additional colleges. The ruling applies to institutions affiliated with six higher education associations that are parties to the lawsuit--including the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the National Council of Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU)--both of which include Duke University as a member, as well as six private nonprofit colleges. The order prevents the Department from requiring submission of detailed race‑ and sex‑based admissions data while litigation continues. The court directed affected institutions to preserve any data responsive to the ACTS survey in the event the injunction is later modified or overturned.
