Engaging 'Thin Spaces' of Connection, Understanding, and Transformation
|
Kaufman's fall programs have aimed at deepening relationships through more intimate gatherings. In a time when division and disconnect seem rampant, we've found that these spaces interrupt us. They draw our attention to a profound sense of presence and connection to something beyond us, something that has been there all along. In this reflection Kyle explores how 'thin spaces' of sharing a table with one another fosters collective transformation.

| Building Trust and Introducing 'Interfaith' on Campus |
Last week, Kaufman held its kick-off Multifaith Mixer at GVSU on a beautiful if unseasonably warm September afternoon. Our goal: to introduce ourselves to new and returning students on campus and to provide a space for everyone to just be. In her reflection on the event, Liz discusses the importance of defining ourselves and our goals, breaking down barriers to inclusion, and building trust in interfaith spaces on campus.

Zahabia Ahmed-Usmani reflects on the challenges and the rewarding nature of managing the Kaufman Interfaith Institute Youth programming.

| "Does Conflict in the World Have a Religious Basis?" By Douglas Kindschi |
"Conflict in Ukraine and in the Middle East dominates much of our news cycle these days. On university campuses it seems like the Middle East conflict has raised the toughest issues and the most antireligious challenges. Antisemitism and Islamophobia are on the rise and what is primarily a political issue has led to hatred of religious communities and verges on violence in many areas." Doug's Insight reflects on this year's Triennial Dialogue's theme, offering perspectives from Mustafa Akyol's new book.
