Paul-Brian McInerney, associate professor of sociology at UIC, is available to address the state of the brewing industry as Illinois Craft Beer Week begins May 8, offering insight into recent brewery closings, mergers and new forms of collaboration. McInerney, who studies collaborative and competitive dynamics in the craft brewing industry, can put current consumer and industry shifts into context and explain how local brewers are adapting.

The final weeks of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” are underway, with the show scheduled to conclude on May 21. Walter Podrazik, adjunct lecturer in communication at UIC and a leading television industry historian, can discuss Colbert’s legacy in modern late-night television, what the show’s conclusion signals about the current state of late-night programming and CBS' late-night strategy post-Colbert.

Chicago Water Week, presented by Current, includes a panel discussion hosted by The Freshwater Lab at UIC that brings regulatory, community, research and industry representatives together to explore what it will take to advance water reuse in Illinois. It will also highlight lessons from successful water reuse models elsewhere and consider how Illinois can adapt and contribute innovation to this growing field. The panel includes Precious Brady-Davis, commissioner with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago; James Jennings, acting director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; Rachel Havrelock, director of The Freshwater Lab at UIC; Robert Strong, an environmental justice advocate with Crossroads Collective; and Brad Tietz, director of state policy for the Data Center Coalition. 1-3 p.m. UIC Institute for the Humanities, Behavioral Sciences Building, Suite 153, 1007 W.
