| IUP Values Me
Student Spotlight: Liv/Ollie Martin
Liv/Ollie is pursuing a speech-language pathology degree with a deaf studies minor, along with a Spanish certification, and will graduate in 2025. They are a Trustee Scholarship recipient and have consistently been on the Dean’s List, with a 4.0 GPA. Liv/Ollie has been nominated for a MCSLE (Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement) Leadership Award and was featured in the 2022 President’s Report and the IUP LGBTQIA+ Support video. They are a member of the Trans Tea Time Council and the Queer Conversations Series and serve as president of IUP Pride Alliance. Liv/Ollie served on last year’s “Embracing the F-word” panel to discuss feminism and its importance in today’s society; led discussions on gender euphoria, queer art, and other topics related to living as an individual who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community; and has presented ally trainings with other members of LGBTQIA+ Support. We thank you, Liv/Ollie!
Staff Spotlight: Abigail (Abbie) Adams
Abbie is a medical anthropologist and faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, where she teaches a variety of courses, including the Anthropology of Human Rights, Contemporary Native American Cultures, Ethnographic Research Methods, and the Anthropology of Food. She has published articles and given conference presentations on topics such as food insecurity, opioid use addiction, and the health and well-being of the people of Appalachia. Abbie has been involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion work for two decades and has served as the Equity and Social Justice advisor for the Indiana Borough Police Department since 2018. She is the coordinator of IUP’s Global Health Program and the chair of the Native American Awareness Council. Abbie is the director of IUP’s LGBTQ Studies Minor. Last spring, she helped organize the first IUP Pride Day celebration. We thank you, Abbie!

Zhongbei (Daisy) Wu is a renowned musician who plays Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument, and has performed in various countries and in remarkable venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, United Nations Headquarters, China National Television, and many more. She is a groundbreaking creator with her own contemporary compositions. A clinical professor of music at Alfred University, she teaches Chinese music and Guzheng courses and directs the Chinese Language and Culture Program. Before coming to the United States, she was an associate professor of music and director of the Chinese orchestra at Hunan University of Technology and Business.
