The CAC bands have been growing and thriving. Today, March 4th, all the bands will be performing for the spring concert. This is the first concert of the concert band season.
Kaida Keaton is a sophomore who joined two years ago during the middle of her 8th grade year. She had played euphonium, a low brass instrument, ever since she joined. This year she has her first ever solo in the song Hymnsong Variants.
“It’s the first two measures of the song," she said. "I think it’s pretty easy considering it’s my first solo. At first there’s two solos, so my section kind of talked it out to see who would get each solo.”
What Kaida enjoys most in band is getting to play and listen to all the music. She’s looking forward to the end of the year concert the most because those are the best concerts for her. She wants people that aren’t in band to know about the strong supportive community that’s in it.
“It doesn’t matter if you start late, you can still catch up, but you have to be willing to put in the effort,” she says to anyone considering joining.
Evan Divino is a senior this year, and he is jazz band president. He plays trombone in concert band and bass in jazz band.
“As Jazz band president of the new Jazz program, my responsibilities aren’t exactly defined. This means that the way that I carry out my influence as president is fully up to my own personal judgement of what a leader should be.”
Evan provides encouragement to all band members, particularly jazz band. He notes the importance of encouraging the jazz band members as most of them are playing less familiar and different instruments than they normally do.
“The reason that I joined the Jazz band was because I wanted to experience more challenging music in order to test my skills as a growing musician.”
He says jazz band has taught him many new things about not only music but also about himself as a growing musician. The band is special to him because it gives him a way to immerse himself in music everyday. He also says that it helps him escape from the world and other worries.
“I get to enjoy a gift that God has given to me and dedicate my performance and abilities to him.”
Make sure to come support all our bands ranging from beginner to high school to jazz band at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. It will be a show you won’t want to miss.
